Hi,
I am looking into the disappearance of the grandfather of a family member of mine. He vanished from Grimsby in the late 1940's and was never seen again. His wife was devastated at the time and although several family members searched for him, he was never found.
I have found a death for a George Prike in Nottingham, which is the right age and it says he died on 14th October 1957 and was buried on 18th October. I wondered if anyone has access to burial records for Nottingham, although I know there will be more than one burial ground. I do not live locally, so cannot attend the record office or the library.
Any help very much appreciated.

Hi,
Thank you very much for that information.
What do you think the 'Grave details plus 5 other burials' means? Might he have been buried in a pauper's grave?

It could be a grave of 5 family members or a common grave where they are not related.

Hi, further to my message re the burial of George Prike, I have found out where he is buried, which is in Southern Cemetery, Wilford Hill, West Bridgford, Nottingham.
I have been trying to email Nottingham City Council, to try and get a map of the burial ground, so we can find and visit his grave, but this is proving to be very difficult. When I email Nottingham Cemeteries Office, the email is just coming back undelivered.
Does anyone by chance have a map that could be emailed to me? I would be very grateful. George's grave number is: F16/4. He is buried in a communal grave and lived at Sneinton House, which I understand was the Salvation Army Hostel.
Thanks, Diana

Have you tried filling in the contact form here instead of sending an email?

or phone them if you are UK based

Thank you Dawn for sending the Notts City Council web page. I filed in the contact form last night and have today received a map of the cemetery.
They also added that if I wanted a map with the actual grave marked, they could do that at a cost of £75, can you believe! I don't think I will be taking them up on their offer!
Thanks very much NG for the offer of the cemetery map.
