Title: Mozilla Thunderbird problem
Post by: LizzieW on Tuesday 05 September 17 09:21 BST (UK)
I have used Mozilla Thunderbird for years for emails but recently something odd is happening.  If I send or receive an email which requires an answer and then the recipient sends an answer back, when I click on the email it will open in two or three (or as many as the number of responses back and forth) windows.  How do I stop it, so that the email will just open in one window and I can see all the questions and responses?

For instance I have been corresponding with someone in Switzerland about part of my tree and every time I send him a response and he comes back with another question, when I click on his response, lots of windows open, rather than just one.  It's really annoying.  I managed to revert these emails to one window but I don't know how I did it and now I'm having a conversation with a builder about some work we want to do and the same thing is happening, each response opens in a different window.

Any suggestions?

Lizzie

Have you tried just reinstalling it?

Not yet, I think there is a fix because I've done it for one set of emails but I can't remember what I did ::)

Try this from the Mozilla Foundation
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/message-tabs

although from reading a few (old) threads on the forums it seems that this is a problem caused by corrupted files

Sorry Falkryn I'd already found that and it doesn't work.  I can change it so that emails open in a totally different page rather than in lots of tabs, but that's even worse.

Hallmark - annoying isn't it?

I don't want to reinstall because when I got my new laptop and reinstalled Thunderbird, although all my emails were still there, the current ones and the ones I'd binned and also the ones I've moved into specific folders, but what wasn't transferred over was my address book and I had to retype all the addresses in again - good job I'd made a copy of them all. ::)

Maybe it will just go away again, ever the optimist, or I'll learn to put up with this weird happening.

Not sure if this is setting you need to change.... maybe yours is set to Open in new tabs??

Hallmark - unfortunately the other two options make things worse.

I think to cure the problem, it's something to do with pressing the delete icon and deleting the last e-mail - which goes against common sense because that's the one you need to keep with all the messages on.  Anyway, it's either fixed itself or I've just done something because it's all working normally now.
