Title: John Lightowler 1799 Northowram
Post by: dave the tyke on Sunday 10 September 17 09:05 BST (UK)
Hi,
I need your help.
I have a John Lightowler born about 1799 in Northowram, Halifax according to 1851 and 1861 census and inferred from 1841.
He married Mary Greenwood 25 Dec 1820 and they had 9 children. (The last David in 1841 confirms Mary as the mother).
I think John died in 1866 but have no proof of this other than a GRO record - not direct line so I don't want to send for the certificate. I would like burial details though.
I would like birth/baptism records if anyone can find them.
Thanks
dave

I can find three possible baptisms with the surname Lightowlers, all baptised Wibsey which is only a few miles from Northowram.

21 Sep 1800 father Daniel
23 Sep 1801 father Joseph
28 Feb 1804 father James

Thanks emelton, I'll have a look at them.
Northowram Independent was the venue for the baptism of at least some of his children and Halifax parish church was where he married, so I would have thought that side would be favourite.

Births of John Lightowler named boys seems to be abundant around Wibsey area.

Thanks Brian, The likely ones are the same that emeltom found, a Daniel appears in a later census, I guess that he is a grandson of Daniel so can be discounted, a John dies in 1804 aged a couple of months, I don't have much for John son of Joseph as yet but I suspect I am looking in the wrong area. I think Coley is a probable location but he seems to be missing from the registers.

I think that later in its life Heyward's chapel was known as the Northowram Independant chapel. I found the right pages on Anc. com. with possible siblings and some of John's children in there but nothing for John himself. Thanks for the Heyward registers link though.
