He appears in the 1861 census as a fisherman living in St Monance with his wife Ann.

Hi walterG and a very warm welcome to Rootschat.

If you have John Guthrie living in St Monance in the 1861 census have you looked for a possible death for him on Scotlands People ?

Also, can you please give us a little more info on him, thanks.

In 1841 he is described as a Merchant Seaman, and in 1851 as a sailor aged 53, born in St. Monance.

Hi walterG,

I could not find a death for John Guthrie on Scotlands People however there is a death record for his wife Ann Fulton in St. Monance on 21st November 1868 and she is recorded as a widow.

A number of trees on Ancestry record John as dying in 1861 in Sulawesi Tengah, Indonesia. How reliable this is I do not know as no sources are quoted.

Hope this helps.
