Hi - I'm still using the 2005 Family Tree Maker program [which works fine for my purposes] but I've decided to upload my tree to Familysearch and FS only accepts Gedcom files. :-\
My Family Tree Maker program won't allow me to export my 'FTW Family File' as a 'Gedcom' file. The option is greyed out.
If I send the FTW Family File [it's about 3.3MB] to a forum user, could they upload it into a different version of Family Tree Maker, export it as a Gedcom file and then send me the Gedcom file?
I'd be very grateful and it would save me spending £50 on new software I don't really need.
Yours hopefully
Rich

Conversion to .ged is in the second section.

Unfortunately, no.
I've got the 2005 starter edition of Family Tree Maker which I bought years ago from PC World when I was just starting out. It seemed like a rip-off at the time, that I would pay for a product only to have certain parts of it locked out until I had paid some more, but I only really used the FTM program so I've just lived with it. One of the features that was locked out was the option of saving my data as a GEDCOM file.
The linked posted by Gadget doesn't seem to let me convert a pre-existing FTW Family File, which is what I've got, into a GEDCOM file. Not with my current software anyway.
It's just annoying that such a basic function as exporting as a GEDCOM file should be reserved for the premium software.

Hi - I am still using FTM 2006 so I may be able to help. I don't seem to have any problems creating gedcom files. I'm not sure whether I've made enough posts to PM anyone so if you pm me your email I will email you back

Thanks to those who offered to help. Hopefully I can get it sorted out.

Hi Sue (SusieK), I have the same issue that Rich had with a .FTM file that I can't open and convert to GEDCOM.
Could you possibly convert my file from .FTM to GECOM if I send it to you?
Thanks,
Eric

Good news: I found a way to import a .ftm file and export it to a .ged (GEDCOM) file
Step1: Download the free version of Family Tree Builder:
https://www.myheritage.com/family-tree-builder/thank-you
Step 2: https://faq.myheritage.com/Family-Tree-Builder/Import-Export-GEDCOM/951690471/How-do-I-upload-the-family-tree-file-I-generated-in-another-genealogy-program-to-Family-Tree-Builder.htm

Roots Magic Essentials (free download) will open a .FTW file which you can then export as a Gedcom.

I've got Family Tree Maker 2005 and am happy to import FTW files and export Gedcom files if that is any use to anyone - though it looks like there are already other solutions.

I should be able to import an FTM file into (my) My Heritage and export it in GEDCOM form......
