PNG was under Australian administration before independence in 1975, so probably you need to search various Australian states BDM records.
Were the couple locals or expats?
I'd start with Queensland as it's the closest Australian state to PNG

According to the State Library of Queensland site:
"Enquiries about births, deaths and marriages that occurred in Papua New Guinea can be made by writing to:
Papua New Guinea
Registrar General
Office of Civil Registry
Department for Community Development
PO Box 7354
BOROKO, NCD
PAPUA NEW GUINEA
Telephone: 0011 675 323 6154
Facsimile: 0011 675 232 1056"

EDIT: This appears to be the current contact details for the PNG Civil Registry: http://www.pngcir.gov.pg/#contact
There is a Genealogical Index to Australians & other Expatriates in Papua New Guinea 1888-1975 held by the State Library of New South Wales - you could enquire with the Ask A Librarian service to see if your couple are listed: http://www.sl.nsw.gov.au/research-and-collections/ask-librarian

Papua New Guinea is an independent nation. For a period after WWII commencing during WWI, PNG was under the administration of the Australian Government but it was not actually part of the Commonwealth of Australia.

How far away and how different a culture
In the 50', s and early 60 be would Brits have been there as engineers and administrators ??
-
I wonder if there were any other BENJAMIN who changed surname to Bennett in 1946 connections there or any SIMm s
Sorry don't mean to hijack your post but haven't got world wide subs the older generation lived in South Africa in the early 1900.',s
Great gran and Eric Bennett aged 5 went to USA fronm UK and back in 1917
That's a lot of travelling for those times
Wonder if he met his wife in PNG or went there for an exotic wedding honeymoon

Geographically, PNG is across the top end of Australia. It's not all that far from the tip of Queensland, but not very people live right up the top of Queensland (too hot; wild & isolated country; inaccessible in wet season) The culture is VERY different from European culture. Look it up on Wiki :P :P :P
While it was under Australian administration, yes there were a lot of expatriates working as engineers, various other trades, administration - from various countries.
Not the sort of place you'd go for a honeymoon ::) ::) ::)
