Post by: TraceyFor0 on Saturday 16 September 17 22:36 BST (UK)
Hi my mums twin sister was buried in Leytonstone cemetery in 1972 we think, but my mum has never been to lay flowers, how would I find out if she is in there without any paperwork.

Welcome to Rootschat

If you know her date of death you could contact the cemetary and ask them to check their records for you

Hi,

Welcome to RootsChat :)

You could try, they have St Patrick's Roman Catholic Cemetery Leytonstone online,

https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=csr&CScn=Leytonstone&CScntry=5&CSst=0

With the name and date you will be able to use the main search as well.

https://www.findagrave.com/index.html

I'm not sure that all the burials at the cemeteries have been recorded here so don't give up if she is not showing.

Regards,
Daisy

Contact details for the cemetery are here, click on Other Cemeteries to get their phone number

https://www.walthamforest.gov.uk/content/cemeteries

You can ring them up and they will search but please give them as much information as you can.

If you don't have a sub to FindMyPast or Ancestry and the record isn't covered yet by freebmd, you can search here for free

https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/2285341

Yeah that sounds about right as I thought it was Feb 73 from what I picked up but my mum for obvious reasons has completely blanked it from her mind, thank you so much

Hi hackney district council don't hold records for individuals, they told me I need to contact every cemetery near that area, do u think just her name and date of birth is enough to find out that information

Her full name and date of death;  her address might also be useful.

A copy of the death certificate might help to find the nearest cemetery to start your search.

Hi I have found her dearth records and someone has that her date of birth was 1952 instead of 1951 and they also told my mum that she was registered under penman not Odatuwa as her married name, this was the girls (twins) older sister I believe that went to register her death so I think I need to speak to her to ask her what's going on now as she is not giving my mum the right answers , I don't know if I can include a photo to see what I found

Thanks again for all ur help
Tracey x

The 1973 registration for Helena  Odatuwa gives her birth as 28 April 1952;  perhaps the informant did not know the exact date.

It was her older sister that done it and she wouldn't allow my mum to go in with her as she would be to upset, but if she was unsure then she just needed to step out to the car and ask as it was my mums twin so it's the same birthdate

It's easy to get muddled just after a bereavement; when the local vicar visited my dad just after mum died he got her place of birth wrong......in the same general but not quite right.

The sister might have thought she'd given the correct year.
