Title: Charles Thomson Campbell - Corydon, Indiana
Post by: Lauren Campbell on Tuesday 19 September 17 11:38 BST (UK)
Looking for more information regarding Charles Thomson Campbell, born on 9th September 1849 in Moffat, Dumfriesshire, Scotland to James and Elizabeth. Following the death of his wife, Euphemia Masterton, in 1908, I believe Charles spent some time in America as a cashier in Corydon, Indiana (It states this on his daughter, Lillias', marriage certificate in 1915 - he had previously worked as a commercial traveller and fish merchant in Greenock, Scotland). On his death certificate (He passed away on 5th October 1931 in Perthshire, Scotland) it says he had a new partner named Bettie, but I am unsure as to whether they were married or even if Bettie was an American. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

According to anc tree Charles was living in Greenock Scotland with his sons Charles and David and also his daughter Lillias in 1911 so he would miss the 1910 US Census.   Have you found him on a passenger list to the USA  ???

According to the probate entry for Charles Thomson Campbell died 5 th October 1931 at 86 Glasgow Road, Perth - probate was ghranted to his son David Liddell Campbell, his son and next of kin of Spens Crescent Perth. No mention of partner Bettie.

Thanks! Where did you find the probate entry? I'm finding it difficult to find Charles on a passenger list, but will keep looking!

If Charles Thomson Campbell was on the 1911 census and listed as in the USA by 1915 he must have travelled 1913 + or - 2 years.

This entry on the 1920 is interesting , although the age is way off :

Charles 63 b Scotland , time keeper arrived 1913
Bettie Campbell 57 b Illinois
Charles Campbell 24 b Scotland nephew

Mount Carmel , Ward 1 , Warbash , Illinois

Might be worth looking into ?

According to the anc tree of the poster Lauren -  William Thomson Campbell (the brother of Charles Thomson Campbell) passed away in 1949 Wabash Illinois - so I'm guessing that young Charles mentioned on that census Christine would be the son of that William  ???
