Title: Joseph Edley from Worthington
Post by: sw1 on Wednesday 20 September 17 16:23 BST (UK)
I am researching EDLEYs for a friend and I'm a bit stuck. I fear much of this will be overseas.

I do have Joseph Edley, bap 21 Dec 1800 Worthington. He had a brother, Hosea, bap 25 May 1804 in Worthington and a sister Mary, bap same day. Their parents were Robert Edley and Ann.

I can't find Ann's surname.

Back to Joseph, he married a Mary (possibly HEWITT) but can't find that either.

They had several children including one son, Robert, bap 31 Jul 1836 in Colombo, Ceylon. His birth date was mentioned as 22 Jul 1836 but no place given. I have found a great website www.kabristan.org which has lots of details re Ceylon, but it's surnames of Joseph's wife, Mary, and Robert senior's wife, Ann, that I would like to find.

Can anyone help here?
Suzie
PS: There are lots of public member trees on this lot, but little sign of sources or proof!

Joseph joined the Army aged 23 on 8 Apr 1825 where he states his previous occupation was a miller.

A Robert Edley married Ann Simpson in Derby on 13th January 1800.

My wife had family in the Worthington area and they also had links to Derbyshire.

David

P.S. Joseph marriage was in Ceylon in 1835 and Hosea in 1836-7 but no wife's surname, but a Mary Hewett is indexed as the same year and page.

Thank you for your reply, dcbnwh.
One wife's name to go on and the other possibility as I suspected.
Thanks for your help.

Robert and Ann were of Little Eaton Parish at the time of their 1800 Marriage.

Thank you, Trish.
Yes, I found that on Pallot's Index earlier today.
