Title: St Woolos Army Barracks, Newport Mon.
Post by: Mary Crane on Saturday 23 September 17 06:01 BST (UK)
Hi
I have a James McGowan dob 1812 Ireland at the Barracks in 1861 occupation 'Barracks Labourer - Pensioner' with his wife Catherine dob 1816 Ireland.  I assume he was a Chelsea Pensioner.  He had three daughters - Jane 1850 in Scotland, Catherine 1852 in Ireland and Lucy 1854 in Newport so I am guessing he moved around with the Army.

I can't find James prior to 1861.
I've tried to discover his Regiment etc. but no luck.  Also, to obtain Chelsea Pensioner records from the National Archives (which I had done in a previous case some years ago) it now refers me to Find My Past, of which I am not a member. (I subscribe to Ancestry),  When entering the limited details I do have on FindMyPast there is a list of James McGowan in the Army and I have no idea which one it might be.
Does anyone know if there is a way around this please?

Thanks

Would be easier to have a month sub with F M P to veiw originals than pay to download all via NA if interested it's your James.

Or a free 2week trial, don't forget to untick renew sub if you do.

Regards

Cas
