Title: Crundale and Wye PRs
Post by: MattD30 on Monday 25 September 17 23:17 BST (UK)
Hi

Is anyone able to do some look ups in the parish registers of Crundale and Wye. I am looking for a number of people with the surname Gibbs (or Gibbes) who are referred to in a couple of Wills I have.

One of the wills I have is the 1712 will of Lawrence Gibbs. In it he mentions his daughter Margaret and his grandson John Kennett (my ancestor). According to a transcript I've seen online Margaret was born in 1673 to Lawrence and Mary Gibbs, however I cannot find a marriage for Lawrence and Mary. I know that Lawrence had other children who are named in the Will and whose christenings I have, but in these cases the mother is down as Margaret. In his Will Lawrence names his wife as Margaret. Could someone have mis-trancribed or mis-read Margaret (Margt?) as Mary? Or are there two wives.

More to follow

Matt

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately so far Familysearch hasn't revealed any result.

Archersoftware is beyond familysearch, have you read the introduction?
Batch I 010472 shows 76 results for Gibbs 1608-1744.

There are just two GIBBS marriages in Wye (Ss Gregory & Martin)
No full dates, only the year.

1681
GIBBS Laurence (Notes: Crundale) to MILLS Margaret (Notes: Wye)

1653
GIBBS Lawrence  to AUSTIN illegible  (W)

Illegible, so annoying!

Assuming for the moment that Mrs 'Illegible' Austin was his first wife & died, I've looked for a burial in Wye between 1653 & 1681 for a female GIBBS.
There's only one, Elizabeth in 1680, but she's described as a widow.
