I am hoping some of this research can be done in New Zealand........
A connection needs to be made between the names of Kirkwood, Hughes and also to tie in Elizabeth Douglas

PRINCE ELIZABETH 85 Years, Burial, Died 11 Feb 1957
Her New Zealand marriage:
1912/4339 Elizabeth Hughes Robert McCrachen Prince
Her death notice:
From 'The Otago Daily Times' dated February 12th-
Prince- On February 11th 1957 at her son's residence, 449 South Road, Caversham, Elizabeth Prince of 419 South Road, widow of Robert McCracken Prince and loved mother of Bet (Mrs. Ezra Dobbie, Auckland) and William Kirkwood, in her 86th year.
I do not know where the Kirkwood name comes into the story.
I have not been able to find details of her daughter, Bet who as Elizabeth DOUGLAS married Ezra Augustus DOBBIE in 1920 in New Zealand.
The death notice for Ezra Augustus (who died in Auckland on 7.7.1962) mentions his wife Elizabeth; loved father of the late Betty (Elizabeth Clarke Dobbie, she died in 1949 @ Lower Hutt) and stepfather of T, (Mrs. G.) & male Douglas, Wellington.
[1928/3094 Ida Eveline Wilson William Kirkwood ---No issue.]
Hoping someone may be able to help please.
Minniehaha.
P. S. The "years in New Zealand" recorded for William Kirkwood is incorrect. It is most likely that he arrived with his mother around 1911.

A Mrs E H and Master W Kirkwood arrived in NZ on the Ruahine in 1911

A 1901 Scottish census fits the ages of both Elizabeth and William
Liston Kirkwood head aged 36
Elizabeth Kirkwood wife aged 29
Maggie Kirkwood daughter aged 4
William Kirkwood son aged 2
Alexina Liston Kirkwood daughter aged 0
Dora Kinloch Erikson Relative aged 9
All living at North Kinglass, 1, Boness & Carriden, Carriden, Linlithgowshire (West Lothian), Scotland
Cheers Janette

Leston and Elizabeth KIRKWOOD also appear in the English 1911 census at Great Bentley Essex with children Maggie, William, Liston, John, George and Alexander and "mother" Margaret KINLOCH and Brother-in-law John KINLOCH (hope that's not a breach of copyright?)
-
Thank you Janette. Those are the correct people. Mother is shown as Mrs. E. H. Kirkwood, housewife. This could indicate that Mr. Kirkwood was still alive, perhaps?
Since putting up the post I have been sent a copy of the marriage printout for son William Kirkwood. His father is shown here as William Kirkwood and mother as Elizabeth Prince, nee Kirkwood. Maiden name Hughes.
Although the ages fit, I'm not certain about the census details, yet. Daughter Elizabeth would have been born prior to emigration. :)

Liston KIRKWOOD aged 47 (married) immigrated to Canada - he's on a passenger list in April 1912 on the Grampian

Thank you Maddy,
Just not sure about this lot yet.

It would appear that Liston and Elizabeth KIRKWOOD died in Canada - buried at Oakwood Cemetery Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario.
https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=115711911
So I don't think the couple on the 1901 Scotland census and 1911 England are yours. ;)
-
Thanks Maddy,
As they say, a negative can be a positive. In this case you have ruled out a family. It is all good. :)

Marriage Scotland:

Jamjar
-
Another son, James, born in 1898.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XTF7-6PF
There's a birth for a William in the same district:
KIRKWOOD William 1899 644/11 1889 Hutchesontown
Jamjar
-
Maybe a marriage for the daughter?
KIRKWOOD Elizabeth DOUGLAS James Bryson 1911 644/18 114 114 Pollokshields
Jamjar
Added: I wonder if Eliz came to NZ with hubby and he died not long after: There are two 1918 James deaths, with no middle name, that would be of an appropriate age.
Or, there is a James Bryson who is buried in a war cemetery in Belgium 1917, so did Elizabeth come out to be with family after death of husband?

What are names of Elizabeth's children?
stepfather of T, (Mrs. G.) & male Douglas, Wellington.
Jamjar
-
https://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/450277/douglas,-j.-bryson/
- this record confirms J. Bryson Douglas as:
husband of Elizabeth Kirkwood Dobbie (formerly Douglas), of 205, Main South Rd., Caversham, Dunedin, New Zealand.
-
Hello Jamjar & Jorose,
The Dobbie/Douglas connection to Main South Road probably links in to Mrs. Prince as I know she was living there around the time of her death. Definitely confirms Douglas husband. A good find, thank you.
And the marriage and birth found would seem to tie in also. Thank you Jamjar.
Now having some confirmed dates I think it safe to provide the names of the step children mentioned in the death notice of Ezra Dobbie, [1962] although they may not be especially helpful:
"Stepfather of Tot (Mrs. Gower, Hunterville) and Alex Douglas, Wellington."

Probate file at Auckland for Elizabeth DOBBIE (1972) :
-
Thanks Lu. I had looked at Waikumete but it looks as if the website is on the blink again as the search returns, "No data available".
And thank you Jamjar for finding the details for the son and his wife.
Re the 1901 census. Difficult to know which, if any of those found may be the correct family; the names being anything but rare. I do appreciate your continuing interest. :)

Elizabeth DOBBIE - Waikumete record is for cremation 1972.
She is listed as a widow of 81 Deep Creek Road, Torbay.
On 1958 Waitemata e/roll with Ezra, (retired) both at above address.
