Title: Born at sea??
Post by: chloerog on Tuesday 26 September 17 11:25 BST (UK)
Does the writing in green correspond with birthplace, I’m having trouble finding Edward Fether’ Birth, I have the year (abt:1891)and have checked gro but nothing seems to match so I’m hoping the green writing means he was born at sea.

The green writing is for occupation codes, see https://www.findmypast.co.uk/content/expert-1911-occupation-codes

Darn thought I had finally found the clue as to why I can’t find his birth anywhere.

It says born Essex doesn't it?

Have you got him in 1891/1901 to see what birthplace is given there?

Maybe Edward was a middle name  :-\

The birth of Margaret Louisa Fether was registered in West Ham June ¼  1884, mother's maiden name Farr. The birth of Henry Fether was registered in West Ham Dec  ¼  1891, mother's maiden name Farr. So it looks as though Edward Fether could have been registered as Henry.
Born Stratford Essex in 1891/1901.

He is 3 months old in 1891.

The mother's maiden name for the John Fether in 1891 is Murphy

Confused now - are there two different mothers?  I can't see marriage for Edward to Catherine.

Catherine is born Alderney Channel Islands per 1891/1901 so maybe marriage was there?

Catherine Murphy age 12 is with her family in Stepney in 1871 including Ellen age 4.

No just one mother as far as I know which would be Catherine Murphy, and not sure where she was married.

The children with mmn Farr are children of Edward's brother Francis who married Emma Farr in Bethnal Green in 1874. Margaret Louisa ( born 1884) is on the 1891 census with them in Stratford, West Ham and Henry ( born 1891) is on the 1901 one in Forest Gate.
