His marriage certificate should give his father's name and occupation

There was very little other info. Do you know if he married in Ireland. I can't find a marriage at the moment.

This is the best match that I can find on the Canadian censuses but not sure if it is him - no other John A with birth circa 1860, NS.

1871
Yarmouth, Nova Scotia
Steele, John, 50 B. Nova Scotia, Religion - Baptist, Origin - Irish, shoemaker and? keeper station, widower
Sophia, 21, B. Nova Scotia, Religion - Baptist, Origin - Irish
Mary, 14,  ditto
Ada E, 11, ditto
John A, 9, ditto

We really need to find his marriage and his army record - will see if I can get it up.

Attestation 1 May 1874. Oath at Omagh

Discharged 30 April 1897

Marriage ref is Pembroke, March Q, 1879 Vol 11a page 831
John Albert (??) Steele and Mary Ann Sims

If you get this from the gro, it should give details of their parents.

The marriage was in England so the cert hasn't been bought yet.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggh

Thanks Sinann.

Just to say the marriage was in Wales not England (we Welsh can be touchy  ;D ). I've given the ref for Noel  so he can get it:

Marriage ref is Pembroke, March Q, 1879 Vol 11a page 831
John Albert (??) Steele and Mary Ann Sims

If you get this from the gro, it should give details of their parents.

Did he have the army record and the 1911, etc. I don't think I want to read the other thread. I usually check poster's previous posts but this looked new  :-X
