Hello - hoping I'm posting in the correct place. I would like some assistance please in locating some further information or some advice as to where best to look online for Harriot - I have searched for marriage/death registration with all sorts of forename/surname variants and the census' on from 1871 too but have had no luck.
Harriot Ann Homan - reg: Sep 1/4 1861 Romford, Essex
daughter of John Homan and Ellen
In the 1871 census for REG DIST: Richmond, Civil Parish Mortlake 870/80/29 is recorded as:
Hariot N Holman age 9 birthplace: Rainham Essex
I did think she may have used her middle name Ann when she was older or possibly Hannah but have still not located her. Any help appreciated.
Thanks

I can understand your difficulty :-\
Familysearch has the family as Holman in 1871:
Holman, John Head M 55 b Chingford, Essex
Holman, Ellen Wife F 44 b Richmond, Surrey
Holman, Tom J Son M 14 b Bamham, Essex
Holman, Hanor Daughter F 9 b Bamham
Holman, Fanny L Daughter F 6 b Mortlake, Surrey
-
I can see the rest of the family in 1881:
RG11/844/104/15
26 Castlegate, Richmond, Surrey
Homan, John Head M 67 b Epping Forest, Essex
Homan, Helen Wife F 57 Laundress b Richmond, Surrey
Homan, Fanny Emily Daughter F 17 Laundrymaid b Mortlake, Surrey
Herbert, Helen Jane Granddaughter F 7 Scholar b Mortlake
Could be a clue there? ;D
EDIT:
Birth of Helen/Ellen from the GRO Index Search
HERBERT, ELLEN JANE (Mother's Maiden Name:) HOMAN
GRO Reference: 1873 D Quarter in RICHMOND SUNEY Volume 02A Page 330

;D yes thanks for that - I have the Herbert marriage of Mary Homan and also her sister Kate to Thatcher and have looked at the census' of both of them to see if Harriot is anywhere near.
it's a bit of a mission finding this family as a whole due to the name; I can't locate John and Ellen and baby Mary at all in the 1851 census so I moved on to the individuals - the 1861:
Reg Dist: Romford, Essex Civil Parish Rainham 1072/104/8 - this family's children are 1st cousins to my ancester's family -
-
I'm not seeing an obvious marriage, but there is this death possibility:
June qtr 1879
St Olave Registration District vol 1d, page 123
Herbert, Harriet age 18
-
Thanks for your help with this KGarrad - unsure why she would be a Herbert but a possibility if she had gone to live with her sister - Mary Herbert and her family in 1881 was living in Brentdord, Mddx
What I do have as possibles for the 1881 census:
822/123/19 Reg Dist Croyden
Annie Martin 20/1861 bn Woodford, Essex
and
624/91/17 Reg Dist Lambeth
Annie Hammond 20/1861 bn Rumford, Essex
update 29-Sep: been to the library to view the originals of both the above and both surnames clearly written, thus transcribed correctly.

Hello 'amondg'
thank you very much for that information about Harriot Homan - very very much appreciated - I can believe it's her married to John Ganney - and if so, very sad she died so soon after.
I know I did concentrate on the census a bit much in my search for her [I've created a census spreadsheet for all our Homan's - three researchers - three family lines] and overlooked searching the civil records in ?haste. I'll be able to let Harriot's family?niece know.
regards Karrienz.

Looks like Harriet Annie Ganney died as a result of childbirth as an Ellen Jane Ganney birth reg'd Dec.1881, death also Dec.1881 - GRO Index shows mmn as Homan.
