Can anyone find this child's death or burial, please? Or even find him grown up.
William Charles Dunn born on 29 May 1859 @ 40 King Street Lambeth father Ralph Dunn bacon drier journeyman mother Elizabeth Dunn formerly Clegg same address
No baptism has been found [yet], although most of this couple's children WERE baptised. William does not appear on the 1861 census with the family RG09/354/50/12 1861 census 9 Saunders St so it is likely he died between 1859 & 1861 census.
The ages exclude these deaths
DUNN, WILLIAM 74
GRO Reference: 1859 S Quarter in PANCRAS Volume 01B Page 79
DUNN, WILLIAM 62
GRO Reference: 1865 D Quarter in LAMBETH Volume 01D Page 235
DUNN, WILLIAM 35
GRO Reference: 1862 S Quarter in PANCRAS Volume 01B Page 35
I DON'T THINK IT IS THIS WILLIAM:
I did find in 1871 a William Dunn aged 12 boarder in Camberwell b Surrey London @ 18 - 24 High Street RG10; Piece: 730; Folio: 4; Page: 2
but I suspect he could be this William in
1861 : RG 9; Piece: 344; Folio: 64; Page: 44 Newington, Camberwell
William Dunn 31 tailor's assistant
Elizabeth A Dunn 30 b Lambeth
Elizabeth A Dunn 8
Jessie Dunn 6
William Dunn 2
Nancie E Dunn 3/12
Charlotte Wilkings 18 servant
Henry Y Jolly 25 boarder tailor's assistant
all apart from wife born Newington
Have not yet found family in 1871 but this being the same family in
1881 RG11; Piece: 686; Folio: 51; Page: 41
William Dunn 51 master tailor
Elisabeth A. Dunn 50 b Lambeth
Jessie Dunn 26
Mary E. Dunn 20
William Dunn 22 master tailor
Percy R. Dunn 13
Kate E. Dunn 7
So I have discounted this Camberwell WIlliam.
My Dunn family stayed in Lambeth. I have looked on deaths & burials on freebmd, ancestry & findmypast. I have used 'similar sounding names' on the GRO site & tried using 'female'.I feel if he is registered at birth with a name he wouldn't be registered at death without one [am I right here?]. There is a William Henry Dunn death in 1860 Q3 1d 147 but he is aged 26, no William Charles Dunn or William Dunn deaths in Lambeth 1859 - 1861, no William Charles deaths anywhere. There is a Charles William Dunn 1859 Q4 Lambeth 1d 230 but he is aged 5.
Ralph died - or disappeared - between 1861 & 1868 [see http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=455595.msg3179144#msg3179144] & Elizabeth remarried to James Nottingham in 1868.
Thanks for any help, Josey

I have found that there are more than 30 deaths of children under 2 in Lambeth between Q2 1859 - Q1 1861 recorded on the GRO site as [for instance]
Name: Age at Death (in years):
-, - 0
GRO Reference: 1859 S Quarter in LAMBETH Volume 01D Page 191
so unless I can find some way of eliminating those with names using same GRO reference from freebmd - on which you can't search with no name - it would need ordering quite a few certificates....
Not this death either
DUNN, CHARLES WILLIAM 5
GRO Reference: 1859 D Quarter in LAMBETH Volume 01D Page 230

Age could be five months, or even weeks, rather than years. This has caused confusion since the new index came online, but can be helpful sometimes.
But 5 months would fit.

That I didn't know, so thanks. Certificate will be worth a punt....
-
Have ordered the Charles William Dunn 1859 Lambeth death certificate by .pdf during new GRO trial for £6.
-
Good luck!
Let us know how you get on.

No email yet but the .pdf was waiting in 'My Orders' on the GRO site.
Charles William Dunn aged 5 months [so spot on jonw65] died at 40 King Street on 18 Nov 1859 from smallpox 11 days. Son of Ralph Dunn journeyman bacon drier registered by Elizabeth Dunn mother present at the death made mark.
Thanks for the help. Have put details as a postem on freebmd.org. Just goes to show you have to consider reversed forenames ::)
