I know who this is not, but to help me determine who it might be, can anyone give me any ideas on when it was taken?

Hi Alistair...I would say around 1914-1920 but Jim may be more precise...lovely photo.

Not from the photographer/address.Herbert Tear(born 1860) is listed at that address from 1871,with his father George until 1901.His father is listed as photographer in 1871 and 1881,then as Registrar of Births and Deaths.I think George dies in 1906.Herbert is still there in the area in 1911 at a different address carrying on the family business.
The earliest date is probably from when his father was appointed Registrar(between 1881 and 1891?)and perhaps the latest at George's death,1906(does he move out then)?

Herbert Tear was at this address from 1897-1917, which doesn't help. However as Carol said this is later. It could be pre-war but not by much & up to 1917.

Hopeless at dating but have to say what kindly looking parents!!

Carol, Roger and Jim, thank you very much. That's so useful as it points to a totally different generation to the one I was thinking possible. You are such a clever bunch! ;D ;D ;D
Josey, I can't agree more - they look lovely.
