A new website:
http://britisharmyancestors.co.uk/
Not found any of mine on there.....yet.
-
Just about to upload 3 photographs and browser says site not safe.
-
Ooh.....I'll investigate for you.
Had a message from them......"not had this happen before, will check it out".
-
Site asks......which browser are you using? Site tested and all ok.
-
Just uploaded photo & medal card - no problems - for great uncle & will create entry with the same for my grandfather. Thanks for the steer!!
Can you upload medal card or does that infringe copyright?
-
Thanks josey. :)
Site owner confirms several uploads arriving without problems.
-
Mozilla Firefox refused to upload. Maybe they are too careful.
-
I'll let them know, thank you.
Update:
Details have been passed to the development team.
-
Thank you Nanny Jan,
I've uploaded a couple of WWI men from my family. half brothers, one a Captain, the other a Private, both KIA within weeks of each other, one in France, one in Gallipoli. What a senseless slaughter.
-
Senseless indeed; on one branch of my tree two brothers died just 8 days apart. Their poor mother.....like so many. :'(
-
My wider family got off lightly in both world wars. Most were age expired or in reserved occupations. In WWII, my fathers brother was RAF and lost in August 1940. My father was a boffin, and although he volunteered he was not allowed to join up. In March 1942 he had two patents, one for improved self sealing fuel tanks in aircraft, the other for self sealing battle dress as proof against mustard gas!!!

Think that's a question for the site, sorry.

Hello everyone. I am the British Army Ancestors site owner. My name is Paul Nixon and my motiviations for creating the site appear on the ABOUT page:
https://britisharmyancestors.co.uk/about-us/
What you can and can't upload is explained on the FAQ page:
https://britisharmyancestors.co.uk/faq/
No medal index cards or service record images please as these are copyright Ancestry and TNA respectively. The site is aimed at providing a resource for British Army photographs but at the moment it is a fledgling operation. This is also explained on the site.
The site is secure and has SSL certification. It is also free to use. If you click on the blue buttons that encourage you to upload a medal index card or service record you will be taken to TNA or Findmypast respectively and you will need to pay to view those images.

Went to the site but my Nortons responded in VERY RED Graphics the following
Dangerous Web Page Blocked You attempted to access:https://britisharmyancestors.co.uk/about-us/This is a known dangerous web page. It is highly recommended that you do NOT visit this page.
However I tried Bing and all ok.
-
Update your Norton software?
The site is secure. Read the address bar; look at the McAfee Secure watermark on the bottom of each page.
-
Just visited the said mentioned site and it is a safe site.

I registered and uploaded a couple of photos recently, all went fine no warnings at all, I have Norton, only small thing was the registration email went into my Spam box, week or two later before I noticed it.
-
Thanks for uploading the photos, Sinann.

Re my message about this being a dangerous site. I was using Chrome as my search engine. My Nortons is up to date. As I said, if I use Bing then Nortons lets me access the site. Beyond my IT skills. Not a problem tho, I will just use a different search engine to Chrome when I need to visit the site. Cheers.

That's puzzling. Chrome is my default browser and the default browser of many, I suspect. I don't have any issues when I access the site. Thanks for the info though which I will report. Maybe it's the certificate from a rival security provider that Norton objects to. Who knows?

Imperial War Museum also has a similar site

Whilst I'm flattered that you should put my site in the same category as the IWM, Lives of the First World War covers only the First World War (and encourages the building of profiles and communities). My site covers the period from 1850, the 'simple' aim being to create a resource which in time will become the go-to place for people looking for a photograph of their British Army ancestors.

Sorry, I am certainly impressed with what you have done and did not mean to divert attention from it.
I was just taking the opportunity of bringing the other site to peoples attention as well as many people are unaware of it ;)
Rosie (who only has Royal Marines in her tree ;D )
-
Also blocked by F-Secure - tried on both Chrome and ie11. I was able to access it previously when I had McAfee.

No need to apologise, Rosie, and Lives of the Frist Wolrd War is certainly worth promoting. I have been a registered user there since its inception and they have built up a significant archive.

Thanks for reporting this.

Norton also tries to block Rootschat on occasions. Ridiculous and You Tube similarly!!!
