Title: Edward LAMBERT, born c1837, Bury
Post by: BAC3 on Sunday 08 October 17 15:03 BST (UK)
Edward LAMBERT was born in Bury c1837 and joined the 2nd Battalion, 7 Regiment Royal Fusiliers on 28/10/1857 and eventually discharged on 17/10/1878 on disengagement (became a Chelsea Pensioner).   His father was William LAMBERT and before his son joined the army was living at Chester Gate, Macclesfield, Cheshire.

The 1871 Census (RG10/2003/64, p.50) indicates he is married to Mary Ann (no maiden name) from Ireland and there are two children James 3 and Edwin 1.   The couple are still together, with a growing family, through 1881 and 1891......then I lose trace of them!!

Can someone help please (1) with details of his marriage, when, where and who was Mary Ann and (2) what happened to the family after 1891 ???

Any details would be much appreciated.

Can you name some of the other children please?  The Mary A I am following has all kinds of birthplaces and don't want to be on the wrong track!

Have you investigated the deaths for Edward & Mary Ann Lambert in Prestwich 1895 and  1897 both of which are on freebmd.  I know it's not in the same area but you never know

What is your connection to this family?

Hello

Thank you for all your responses.

It seems as though your answers are solving my problem........except for the GRO, which insists upon refusing to accept either my email or password in persona non grata fashion (I am waiting for a new password!!)

The additional children in 1881 were Sarah born 1873 and Emily Ann 1876.   1881 and 1891 Census suggest Mary Ann was born Ireland.

CaroleW had very kindly pointed me in the right direction for the deaths of Edward and Mary Ann in Prestwich and that particular chapter is now complete.  Thank you for confirmation

The one area that still remains unfinished with finite details is the marriage (I assume) between Edward LAMBERT and Mary Ann MARTIN, which could have taken place when he was stationed in Cork, but the available Irish records have not produced an answer
