Hi
I am really stuck. John Crawford appears in 1881 census in Alloa aged 46. Job a slater.
In 1871 he is in Kilsyth aged 35 and a slater. In both entries born Glasgow.
His daughter died in Edinburgh in 1894. On death certificate he is stated as deceased.
I think he died between 1881-1894. I can't find him in 1891 census or in any death indexes on SP. Any search suggestions would be great.
thanks

Do you have the names of his wife and daughter. This might help in locating him.

Hi
wife more accurately partner Mary Morrison and daughter Margaret. Mary and John never married or registered it
-
Mary died in 1901 again in Edinburgh. she was a vagrant dying of exposure.

Try https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl just in case he had strayed south of the Border and died in England or Wales.
Or https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ in case he strayed across the Irish Sea and died in Ireland.

thank you Forfarian will try both links

I am also interested in finding death of John Crawford. I tried looking at free BMD covering England but proved unsuccessful.
I found them in in 1871 at Kilsyth then 1881 in Alloa as has been said before.
In between, daughter Margaret was born in 1878, Edinburgh st Giles. She died in 1894 in Edinburgh. John is noted as "deceased" on her death cert.
Reputed wife Mary died in 1901, a vagrant and is registered in Corstorphine.
Bit what about John's death? When and where it is registered?

Can anyone help to find John Crawford? Thanks
-
Have Mary and Margaret been found on the 1891 census in Scotland?
From the 1881 census, the 14 yr old John Crawford b. Glasgow in the listing is another son? Does anyone know what happened with him as it may provide clues for father?

Hi Monica
Been looking in SO for son John. THere are 34 listed. Trying to limit it to Edinburgh area.
Trouble is John's job is a mystery.
-
For sure :-\ I had a look at the 1891 and 1901 transcripts for John Jnr. Plenty of John Cs born Glasgow in his age group unfortunately isn't there.
No luck either I am guessing for Margaret and mother Mary in 1891? I can't easily see them.

thanks. No sign of the mother and daughter as you say.
Although John senior is described as slater I suppose he could have changed jobs?
John the son was born in Glasgow in 1867. Maybe he returned there
