Post by: jkhansen on Monday 09 October 17 15:57 BST (UK)
ANDREW MICKLE ch. 27 Mar 1694, Carriden, West Loth. Scotland. He married MARY BALDERSTON 21 apr 1716 in Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland. She was christened 14 Jul 1696, Kinlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland.

Was there more than one child born in this marriage of Andrew MICKLE and Mary BALDERSTON than David?

David MEIKLE christened 31 aug 1735 in Abercorn, Linlithgow, Scotland.
I would dearly like to have more information abt him, his wife - was there more children born within the marriage than David, and where/when did he died??

He had a child called DAVID MEIKLE, b. 16 mar 1770, Linlithgow, Scotland; d. 02 dec 1851, South Queensferry; married Agnes DICK in 1797. She was born abt 1774, Earlstone, Berwick, East Lothian - died 05 jul 1861 in Merriless, Abercorn, West Lothian. I have no more information abt Agnes nee DICK except she died at the age of 87 of age, and informant was her son, Hugh Meikle. Daughter of William Dick but her morther was listed as unknown.  More information please?

David and Agnes had 11 known children born in the marriage:  William, David, John, George, Margaret, George, Hugh, Thomas (my branch), Catherine and James Mackie MEIKLE.

My branch - Thomas born in 1815, Abercorn, W. Lothian, marr Catharine BACHIOPE and died in 1878, New Zealand.

I would be greatful for any information and 'thanks in advance'

Andrew Meikle would appear to have had the following children

James b 22 Nov 1738
Andrew b 2 Oct 1722
Mary b 28 July 1718
Robert b 30 June 1731
James 11 April 1721

The above is from familysearch but should also be available on Scotlands People(which is presently showing as unavailable for me) where the original OPR's can be located.

Finding deaths in Scotland pre 1855 can be tricky- burial records can be few and far between. It is worth checking Scotlands People and sites like Findagrave.

Question 2: Occupation - 'Wright' - what sort of work would this man do?
He would do skilled manual work - a wright is usually a carpenter or joiner but other skilled trades can also be so described - shipwright, cartwright, wheelwright, millwright, square-wright and so on.

Question 3: Indweller ? Owning a house or?
Living in the same house or household. Only a tiny proportion of people in the 18th century owned their own house. Renting was almost universal.
