Hi guys, does anyone know when Emily jane seward born 1875 devon died? she married Sidney john kingdon in Barnstaple 1904 before he moved to wales in 1906 and married someone else but I cant find her in 1911 census she might have changed name or married again, also an amy Winifred kingdon born 1904 and buried pilton 1904 might have been her daughter but subs has run out so cant check FindMyPast baptisms and she might have only listed herself and not father in baptism register, thanks for any help on the matter, driving me crazy.

Divorce was very unusual in that era. When Sidney remarried did he describe himself as a divorcee or a widower?

From the GRO web site (free to search)
KINGDON, AMY WINIFRED (no mothers maiden name listed which means she is possibly illegitimate ie. mothers maiden name Kingdon)
1904 Dec Quarter in BARNSTAPLE Volume 05B Page 416
-
Amy Winifred Kingdon was 22 days old when she was buried 05 Oct 1904.
GRO has Amy's birth (Vol 5b Page 416, Barnstable) no mother's maiden name.
There is another birth with the same name q1 1905, Barnstable MMN - Routcliffe.

Added - Have just seen that Rosie has posted similar info, apologies for duplicating :)

Amy Winifred Kingdon
Baptism date -14 Dec 1904
Baptism place - Pilton
Father - George, occ - Mason
Mother - Mary
Something seems a bit odd as the death is before the baptism, therefore they must be two different people. ???
The above Amy must be the one whose birth was registered in q1 1905.

There is more than one Sidney John Kingdon around
Marriages:
Jan/Feb/Mar 1904 Barnstaple only other one indexed with that page ref in Emily Jane Seward
Oct/Nov/Dec 1904 Exeter to Emily Webster or Edith Maude Guscott
Oct/Nov/Dec 1908 Swansea to Sarah Jane Rees or Mary Emily Sullivan
-
Thanks guys, Sidney listed his dad as deceased on the cert of his second marriage even though he didn't actually die till 30 years later and as sidney moved to wales I think there might have been an argument upsetting the family, maybe sidney was a bigamist but I thought amy Winifred kingdon might have been an abandoned daughter that Emily listed in her own name after Sidney moved away.
-
And how did Sidney describe himself? "Widower" or "previous marriage dissolved"
-
Hi lizbd, I bought Sidneys marriage certs of jan 1904 and 1908 and they match the data I have on him but I haven't bought the oct 1904, maybe it was another Sidney john kingdon or maybe it was him but pretty desperate to marry two more women in short amount of time if it was him.

Bachelor.
-
But he had a son with Emily Sullivan who would later be his wife in 1907 called harry Sullivan.

I would be wary of not letting your imagination run away with you!!!
There are possibly several Sidney's around, and the marriages all involve Emilys, so it will be very hard to sort it all out.
1911 will help, but we cant post the info here. 2 Sidney Johns are clearly on there.
(Ah - ROsie just posted one of them from familysearch. Childrens births show mmn Sullivan. No Harry with them though!)
-
Hi rosie, yes that my great granddad in 1911 census but cant find his first wife Emily j kingdon (or if she married again by another name)
-
Lizdb harry Sullivan died 1910
-
and as sidney moved to wales I think there might have been an argument upsetting the family,
Maybe he moved to Swansea as he met Emily the 2nd who was from there - probably around the time he was serving his prison sentence there in June 1906

As we are supposed to be looking for Emily Jane Seward can you please give full details for her ie place of birth & parents names. You have already given her year of birth as 1875.

The Dec qtr 1904 marriage was between Sidney John Kingdon b abt 1875 Exeter and Edith Maude Guscott (not Emily Webster).
They can be found together later on, and are separate from the people found in Wales.

One Sidney John Kingdon, a labourer (with a co-defendant brother George) was living in Union St, Barnstaple when he was brought before the magistrates in December 1906 for the theft of a duck. (Sidney was fined 10s and paid costs).
"Mrs Kingdon" is referred to, but her first name is not stated.

That is the one I keep looking at but as OP states she was born Devon I was hoping for some clarification maybe from the marriage information :)
