Title: Mary Ann A McDougall
Post by: MarMnkly on Monday 09 October 17 21:24 BST (UK)
Hello, please an you help
I have a topic entitled George Mercer born about 1880 on the London and Middlesex board.
George Mercer was also known as Edgar George Buzzacott who married Mary Ann A McDougall in 1906, Uckfield, Sussex.
I am hoping to track Mary Ann Annabella McDougall's baptism record, if one exists.
The GRO reference says she was registered in the December quarter of 1877 (Uckfield) .
Census information gives her place of birth as Waldron to parents John and Elizabeth.
many thanks
Mar

She was baptised Mary Ann Annabella McDougall on 13 Jan 1878, daughter of John & Elizabeth McDougall at Waldron.  John was a gardener.

She seems to have had six siblings, all with quite distinctive names.

Added: She had a son in 1900 - Roderick Sidney Bennett McDougall - no father named on baptism record.

Thankyou Little Nell - this is so helpful. Does the baptism give any indication of her DoB - long shot I know  :)
The last name of Rodney (Bennett) is new information gratefully received

Roderick  was shown as "grandson" on 1901 census, he was living with Mary Ann's parents, later he was listed as Roddy,

Roderick Sydney B McDougal  born 26/02/1900 and died June 1982 Hastings

This baptism date at least narrows her birth date down, we know she was registered the last qtr of 1877, so she most likely would have been born during those last 3 months of 1877, brings it a little closer

Hello Little Nell
A Sybil May Agnes McDougall is registered in the GRO for June quarter 1904 in Eastbourne. There is no maiden name listed. This child is later living with a brother of Mary Ann Annabella McDougall and his wife as their niece.
Would it be possible to check if this child is also baptised - maybe another child of Mary Ann Annabella?

Mar, if you refer to 1911 as I know you have done it will show you how many children Mary Ann had by 1911,

Looks as if Sybil Mary A married 1930 Medway to George Andrews
Sybil Mary A Andrews died 2005 in Surrey  birth date 18/03/1904
BUT we still don't know who her parents were

Worth noting the wording on the 1911 census - children born alive to present marriage and that there is a column for children still living.

Hello  :)
Yes, I know it is probable that the census information is correct and that there is only one child to Mary Ann (Roderick born 1900), and that the other child (Sybil born 1904) could be her sisters child?
But I thought it was worth posting to see if anyone could see a baptism for Sybil to rule her out.
Hopefully someone will be able to find a baptism

Sorry, would need to visit the Keep to look at the register for Sybil's baptism and I'm not heading that way anytime soon.
