I have a couple of my ancestors who married at the Zion Chapel, West Street, Boston in March 1902. I haven't come across the Zion Church with any other relatives so I am a bit confused.
I do know from the marriage certificate that the groom lived in Zion Court, West Street and the bride, who died in Sheffield, was buried in unconsecrated ground.
Has anyone got any information about this Chapel, the Zion faith or any other information. Could they just have got married there or would they have had to belong to that faith.
Also if anyone has a photo or links to a photo of the Chapel, that would be great.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This may, or may not, help to explain Zionism.

Hi Loz,
Have just seen your query, so did a bit of googling.
Reading the description of this
https://www.lincstothepast.com/Site-of-former-Zion-New-Connexion-Methodist-chapel--West-Street--Boston/907096.record?pt=S
the document would seem to be a photo, presumably one of the three I found by searching the LLTP site.
If you go to the Lincstothepast site
https://www.lincstothepast.com/
click advanced search and then type Boston Zion Chapel in the first box labelled 'with all the words' and then select 'images' you should get two photos of the current chapel in Brothertoft Road, and three of the original one in West Street.
From that description the chapel where your ancestors married seems to have been on the site of the Regal cinema, which opened in 1937.

The frontage is on West Street, the road sign on the side of the building is Bond Street, so if you look at a map you will be able to find the precise location.

Thank you PamThomas - it was great to find something that actually referred to the West Street Chapel and made everything clear. Also previously I've had problems using the Lincstothepast site - you showed a good example of how to use it.
Thanks - Loz

I can confirm the existence of a Zion chapel in West Street Boston. It was still there when I left the town, but according to previous posts has now relocated to Brothertoft Road.

Hi. I haven't seen this before with it being in the resources offers board.
My Great Great Grandparents were married at the Zion Chapel on West Street. It was a Methodist Chapel. Here is a photo for you. I don't know when it was taken but presume it was after the fire and alterations were made.

What I believe to be the inside...

A link to the site on google street view from 2017. The car park space on the left side of the road is where the Regal Cinema was, and the Chapel before that.
Beyond the car park but on the right side of the road you can see the council buildings, they can also be seen in the old picture of West Street I posted.

Thank you to everyone who has replied to my post. The photographs are great and will add to my family information.

Modernisation made a right mess of that site! BUT the chapel I remember was further down on the other side of the road in West Row? before Queen Street.

As has already been said, the Zion Chapel was near Bond St, the one towards Queen St was the Primitive Methodists.

Had missed that Geoff. Thanks. There was also the Railway Mission in Fydell Crescent so the established church was under pressure.
