This is from an 1871 Census, a 15 year old boy, in London. Any help deciphering?
***Think the name of the road is Aldred Road***

It looks like Somerset House :-\. Who is it so we can look at the rest of the page

Or Manse.

I agree with Somerset House/Manse but what I don't get is a place name for an occupation?
What's the address of the abode & who was the Head etc.
Some more details as in relationship to Head & occupation of Head?
Please can you post an image of the household with above details (just the relevant column) for the above (all in that household) & enough on right for letter comparison?

Maybe that is where he is working :-\

Thanks for the help so far. Now that its been said, I can see Somerset house quite clearly, it would make sense as the boys father lived at 3 Southampton Street which is right round the corner from Somerset house.
Now I just have to find out what he could have been doing in said house :P

His mother has a pension from the Admiralty, and the Admiralty were in Somerset House until 1873, so he was probably working for the Admiralty.

See http://www.rootschat.com/links/01kvj/ which mentions some of the Admiralty departments at Somerset House.

Hi Stanmapstone, I think you are on to something there. The boys father (my 4th Great Grandfather) was a naval master who was court marshaled and wrongly dismissed from the navy. He spent his entire life trying to prove his innocence and overturn the court marshal, eventually, he met with a degree of success. The admiralty is certainly something I would associate with this family. I'll take a proper look at that link you posted as soon as I am able.
Thanks for the help
