Hi all,
I have attached what i have on my paternal great grandmother in the hope that i can confirm her father's name once and for all,is it John as she states or Joseph ?
On her marriage in 1898 it gives her father as being John Brophy and in 1901 ( Lizzie Cormack ) with a Brophy family as daughter to John head of family and in 1911 (Elizabeth McCormac ) with my grandfather John age 12.
BUT the only birth record I can find is one for Elizabeth Brophy dau of Joseph Brophy and Mary Carty and is around the correct year.
I have searched for births with second name Elizabeth just in case she goes by an alternate name but not found any and her death record also states Elizabeth on the entry.
Does anyone else on here have her on their tree and would welcome suggestions or opinions as to which father seems more likely.
For now I have her with Joseph and Mary B as their daughter as opposed to John and Mary B until I can prove either way.

Thank you hallmark and dathai for all your efforts.
I had gotten myself into quite a muddle with this but due to your efforts I have discounted Lizzie Brophy dau of Joseph Brophy, carpenter and Mary Carty because mine had married and was Lizzie McCormack/Cormack by 1898 and 1903 when the other Lizzie was informant/present for her parents deaths.
My problem is with Lizzie Brophy- McCormack's birthplace and birth record
In 1911 says born Dublin ( her missing husband Peter was born Dublin ) thats another problem I'm trying to solve.
In 1901 says born Kings,same is rest of family,
Seems unlikely but I guess it may have been possible for her to have been the only child born elsewhere.
I have her siblings Tullamore births but in regard to her birth there was only one found ie the other Lizzie.
So back to the drawing board for now

Dathai I agree its very confusing when parents names are duplicated- would tend to favour the Brophy family in Barrack St as this baptismal record seems to fit the John Cormack aged 2 in the 1901 Census.

the birth of Elizabeth in Sep 1877 in Celbridge coincides with harvest time many agricultural labourers travelled around the country at this time as they were guaranteed a few weeks work.

Yes I saw that but Peter on marriage cert gives residence as Ballydaly (Kings) so wonder if he went to Dublin for work. He is v. elusive can't find any likely birth record or any record in 1901 or 1911 Census. Checked military records to see if he joined army but found nothing.

Its been very beneficial following your discussion as it has put a whole new perspective on my Elizabeth B and Peter Mc, a fresh two pair of eyes so to speak, so thank you both.
There is a WWW1 short service attestation pension record on Anc@@@ but have not posted link in case not allowed due to copyright.
Peter McC, service number 31155, Royal Artillery,the age way off and marriage date incorrect but I believe this is him.
My grand father John an only child was mostly brought up by his mother Lizzie,father absent a good deal of the time as you discovered.
There are several prison entries over a number of years in the name of P McC but I cannot decide if this is him but he must have been somewhere
The birth place Dublin seems to be consistant on these records with an address of James Street on one of the later records.
I too have not found a Tullamore birth entry for him or a death.
Seems to be the black sheep of my family !!
All I can be positive about is that he was in Tullamore when my father was a young child as he spoke of him and he was there in 1937 when Elizabeth died.

Have you tried contacting anyone on facebook, Offaly Historical & Archaelogical Society may be able to find directories from 1937 listing Peter McCormac* at an address there,O'Molloy Street formerly known as Pensioners Row till 1930s

I looked at the service record and it seems quite clear it is the correct Peter McCormack- He gives Elizabeth as his wife and an address in Barrack St Tullamore for her. It looks like he made himself younger when joining- Perhaps afraid he wouldn't be accepted. A very short stay however.
do you have a possible birth date for Peter? All I remember is that he was full age on the marriage cert but that could mean any age over 21.
