Post by: tiawooster on Monday 16 October 17 10:31 BST (UK)
Morning, On the 1948 Perth and Kinross, Scotland, Electoral Register, Robert Lamond has SSS1934590 against his name, he is on the register with his parents, anyone know why he has this against his name. Many thanks, Mary

This appears to be the entry for the Lamond family in Whitefriars Street, Perth.

I've noticed similar annotations to names in electoral registers in the immediate post-war years, and they appear to be there when there are two people of exactly the same name in the same household. I think I've seen both service numbers (for ex-servicemen) and 1939 Register numbers (for others, presumably).

I don't know anything about Scottish 1939 Register numbers, and the length of this one might indicate that it's a service number. If it is, then it would help considerably in discovering more about the chap's war service.

I don't know anything about Scottish 1939 Register numbers

From newspaper articles in 1982 when Michael Fagan entered Buckingham Palace, I'd say that was easier than trying to get a copy of a 1939 (Register) entry in Scotland  ;D
