Walter John GWYN was a friend named in the will of my ancestor, John Hammond GALBRAITH who died in London in 1921.
W. J. Gwyn was said to be a shipowner living at 8 Netherhall Gardens, Hampstead when the will was executed in 1920.
W. J. Gwyn aged 84 years, died on 16.10.1940, at his residence, Lypiatt Park in Gloucestershire. The death notice in 'The Times' said he was the son the late George Boyce Gwyn of Hampstead and brother of Mrs. Drysdale Woodcock. Walter Gwyn was formerly a partner in the firm of Messrs. Bethell Gwyn & Co., of Leadenhall Street, Shipowners.
Would be most grateful for any further information about this man.

From Wikipedia entry on Lypiatt Park:
The Lypiatt Park estate was broken up and sold in 1919. W.J. Gwyn bought the house and most of the estate, and settled there in the late 1920s with his sister and brother-in-law, Judge H.B.D. Woodcock. The latter continued to live there after their death with his daughter, Isla Woodcock, until it was sold in 1951/2, when they moved to Jaynes Court, nearby.

Walter's father, George Boyce Gwyn was a merchant with links to Australia and Paris.
He was a partner in the firms of Francis Giles & Co, Sydney, and Favenc, Gwyn & Co, London & Paris.
They were Silk Mercers, Drapers, and General Importers.
I can only find George B on the 1871 census in England?

Thank you KGarrad for all of this information. The links to Australia are of interest. My ancestor mentioned above; John Hammond Galbraith, was New Zealand born of British parents and spent much of his life in Australia returning to England in the late 1890's.
You are helping to build up a background for me re the life of J. H. Galbraith.

Walter John Gwyn was involved in the shipping trade, as you know.
His company (or one of them!) was Bethell, Gwyn & Co; mentioned here:
