Could anyone help me pin down the right person. I'm looking for the wife of my great-uncle John Edward McMullen Jnr b.1900 d.1938. I know his wife was Edith Elizabeth Jones and I have a possible marriage in 1929 in Ormskirk and they had 2 children Phyllis and David Joseph. They lived in Akrington, Middleton, Manchester. When JEMcM died I have a probate leaving everything to Edith and their son David Joseph Jones, Chartered Accountant. I'm not sure where she was born as there many Edith Elizabeth Jones and I don't know her date of birth. I'd like to know what happened to her when she was widowed young. Did she remarry?
Any help appreciated.

It's possible that Edith Elizabeth was born in 1907. The 1939 Register certainly has an Edith E McMullen, a widow, and there is a David J born 1932 in the same household. FreeBMD show a David J McMullen registered in Manchester 1932 with mother's maiden name of Jones.

When JEMcM died I have a probate leaving everything to Edith and their son David Joseph Jones, Chartered Accountant.
Do you have the actual will. The probate calendar will only show the executors, who are not necessarily the beneficiaries.

That date of birth ties in with the 1939 Register entry.

David Joseph PcMullen was born 1932. The person mentioned in the probate is David Joseph JONES who is probably a brother of Edith. 1939 also has a Phyllis M Jones listed in the household born 1908 - likely a sister of Edith. Using Freebmd/gro it is possible to identify Edith Elizabeth Jones born 1907, Phyllis Mary Jones born 1908 and David Joseph Jones born 1906 all born Ormskirk with mother's maiden name Murray.
