Title: James Pemberton
Post by: wb2f on Tuesday 17 October 17 15:27 BST (UK)
A real conundrum for a lot of people for years trying to find out about this James!  Poss born 1831 or 1837 (birth cert. not that clear) and born according to Ancestry in Mrafewood, Staffs.  There doesn't seem to be a place with that name & the nearest we think it might be Threapwood.  Married in 1857 to Hannah Hughes they lived near Wrexham, but by 1871 census he had "up and left her".  She remarried, but is there anyone out there that might know whatever happened to James?  :-\

I take it she claimed to be a widow when she remarried?  What year did she remarry?

And what kind of birth certificate is it from 1831/1837?

I guess you've already looked for parents/siblings in 1841.

If he was of full age when he married in 1857 then the birth is likely to be earlier than 1837 to make him over 21.

I see Hannah has a 1 year old in 1871 so he can't have upped and left that long ago!

Good points, and yes, I have all the information that could possibly be gleaned apart from what happened to James! It does seem he left her 'holding the baby!'.  Hannah remarried a William Davies is 1872 - not sure if she said she was divorced or widowed though.  There are just too many James Pembertons around!  Thanks for looking y'all.

Rosie just wondering if she remarried under Hannah Hughes not Hannah Pemberton as can't find a HP marriage.

Might be off piste but there is one in Anglesey Dec 1871 with a William Davies Hannah Hughes 2 of the 4 names.  Others are Agnes Jones Meshach/Mesech Jones.

Doesn't help find James I know.

One thing to note is that if James Pemberton was living in the Wrexham area in 1841 then I'm afraid the entire Census for the area is missing apart fom a small part of the Wrexham Town itself.

Regards
William Russell Jones.

Hi Millie
Thank you  ;D
William Davies married Agnes Jones & Meshack married Hannah Hughes so we can ignore that one, copy on F M P.  Shame, that was looking good.

'Despair' is certainly a good word for it!  There are just toooo many James Pembertons to be sure of any and 'Threapwood' is only a guess for the word Mrafewood as on census.  Thing is too, there is one in Flintshire and one in Staffordshire, which is (supposedly) where our James was born.  Problems, problems....
