Title: Can any of our American “cousins” help ?
Post by: TinaRoyal on Monday 30 October 17 15:03 GMT (UK)
Matty Farraday, the daughter of my 3x Great-Grandfather, John Farraday, was born in Rochdale, Lancashire around 1819.  She married James Boothman, at St. John’s Church in Manchester, on 24th September 1838.

On 8th September 1857 she arrived in America, on the “good ship” Manhattan, and settled in Christian County, Kentucky.  Matty appears on the 1860, 1870 and 1880 United States Federal Censuses, (under her more formal name of Martha).

I am led to believe that she died on 23rd March 1889 and could well have been buried in Christian County, Kentucky, but I have been unable to locate any “primary” documentation to support either of these facts.  Does anyone, on that side of “the pond”, know from where I could obtain the documentation to support this information?  If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

One of those anc trees says -

"Mrs. M. F. Boothman died last Saturday at the residence of her son-in-law, Geo. Crunk, north of town, in the 73rd year of her age" -  Hopkinsville Kentuckian (Newspaper) Friday, March 29, 1889 page 3 -  column  3

Nellie Boothman Crunk is buried Courtney Cemetery  Hopkinsville Christian County
Kentucky. Have you tried contacting that cemetery to see if Martha is also buried there ?

The Hopkinsville papers are available on Newspaper Com which is a pay site, but all the Hopkinsville newspaper on that site are available  FREE to everyone to search and view. There you will find many bits and pieces about this families mentioned.

Just adjust add any search terms after the "Hopkinsville, Kentucky"

Splendid.  I now have the “primary” evidence I’ve been looking for.  Thank you both.

If anyone else has any other bits of information, I would love to hear from you.
