Is anyone able to look up a Marian Walker, living with brother Charles V Magrath at 19th ST in the 1905 NY Census?
There was a Marian Magrath in the 1870 Manhattan Census with brothers and sisters including a Charles V. Magrath. I guess there must be a marriage record & other Census records for her.....
A Charles V. Magrath was cited in the will of a brother Wm Benjamin Magrath (resident NY, but buried in Springdale Connecticut) in 1903. At that time it was said he had 3 brothers & 2 sisters living in NY.
All the brothers and sisters COULD link to Dublin parents George Ponder Magrath & Maryann Scott, but the only firm link I have is for William Benjamin.
Many thanks.

A year of immigration. Wonderful. Thankyou.
Sorry her husband had died - no indications of how long a widow, if naturalized etc?

One to discount was a marriage for Robert Magrath - 27 March 1875 Manhattan - to Jennya (Jemima) Lindsay. ??? Certificate Number 1668 - this Robert was 43 years old. Merchant from Dublin. This Richard was the one buried in Brooklyn - Greenwood Cemetery 7 April 1886.

Thanks Sandra. If he was 'my' Robert then he and brother Marcus would have gone back to Dublin. (I have a Robert who was later a sanitary engineer in Dublin and a brother Marcus who was a clerk - which would correspond to to their declared occupations I think).
But then ... I do so want them to be 'mine', frightened of making leaps that aren't evidenced.

Could this death for a Rebecca Boardman fit? https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2W9W-SFT The parents' names looks close, and the cemetery might also be Springdale.
-
That is definitely her!
I am intrigued by the Springdale connection. It is where Wm B was buried -yet he practised as a solicitor and actually died in NY. So someone was there that was important to them - maybe one of those potential siblings ....
-
On www.fultonhistory.com, I found a death notice for Rebecca in the NY Herald from 30 Jun. 1907. It says she was the widow of Francis Boardman and the funeral was to be in Springdale, Conn. No further info about her family.
Also on that site, there is an article in the Mount Vernon Daily Argus from 29 Jun. 1901 with a list of people who went to a wedding (whose wedding, I'm not sure, as it's on a different page). It lists Mrs. Rebecca Boardman and then the next two names are William Magrath and Charles Magrath.
-
Perhaps this is Francis & Rebecca's marriage in Ireland: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FG87-6C6

Could this be another or coincidence - Catherine Magrath born 1859 Ireland. parents George Magrath and Mary Scott. Married Burt Somers 2 October 1888 Manhattan

Hamilton Thomas - didn't have the middle name or a sure link. Great stuff.
There is a Geo McCausland Magrath m Kate Burke - a good suspect, but can't find why he should be related to Geo Ponder M. and the other children.
Fantastic new info though. Thank you so much.

Springdale is a section of Stamford, Connecticut and not that far from New York City, so perhaps William lived there for a while and had already purchased a plot in Emmanuel Cemetery. Not sure when he would have been born but could he have retired to Stamford?

Do you have a date for this please? (Just going thro everything - so much new info that really ties them in to Geo Ponder Magrath & Mary Scott).
Hamilton's death info has his occupation as 'Carlaten' - do you think this was as in 'Charlatan', unqualified health/ potions person??
Thanks
-
Must have been 1870 - Hamilton was born 1848 and was 22 years. I'll be back in a mo when I've checked.
Sandra
-
It was 9 th May 1870
Sandra
-
Well - that kept me busy for a few days!! ; :) Thank you so much to all of you.
Haven't quite finished all the cross-checking but nearly ....
The 1870 Census family definitely ties in to my Geo Ponder Magrath & Mary Scott - a whole host of children who just do not appear in the Irish records that exist.
A few incognitos, don't know if you are able to clarify??:
1. Catherine Magrath b1859 Ireland who married Burt Somers is a very likely candidate for a sibling. I can find a Burt Somers in Lincoln New Mexico 1900, who was b1864 Maine, widowed - but nothing else to firm up suspicions of family link.
2. In the 1905 Bronx Census Catherine Burke Magrath is with her one surviving child Margaret Magrath Terry & gdgtr Pearl Terry & 2 gchildren surnames Shields. So whose children were the Shields they I wonder ???
3. Thanks so much for the Springdale, Ct Cemetary link - this gave a list of burials in which I found previously unknown husband of Marian Magrath Walker, Dr JK Walker - the probable link for Marian & Wm B's burial there :)
4. Charles V Magrath has been a mystery. Some time ago I did find a ref to a Charles V, carpenter in Fairfield Connecticut in 1920 which seemed unlikely as he was always a Clerk and would have been 80. But now your amazing finds have produced Hamilton Thomas's gson Robert Hamilton Magrath as dying in 1992 in Fairfield, CT - so I wonder if there is any evidence around for our Chas V Magrath, born about 1841 Dublin, Ireland living/dying in the area?
Many thanks

Looks a distinct possibility for him - middle name invaluable if so, thanks.
I just found ref to a Charles V Magrath b1874 died 22 Jan 1896 Manhattan - do you know if there are further details please :).
