Title: Zimmermann family decipher from handwritten document in German
Post by: Georgebaynes on Tuesday 31 October 17 23:02 GMT (UK)
My German is non-existent.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSLR-19FT-L?i=467&cat=305620
this is a link to the family search webpage. which is a scan of the document.
On the left hand page at the bottom are
128  Zimmermann  Leopold                   ??????   537
129  Zimmermann  Emilia ???? Grear                 537
130  Zimmermann  Leopold                                 537
131  Zimmermann  Rosalia                                  537
132  Zimmermann  ???????                                   537

Is this Melderegister 1875-1880 the same as a Census ?

Emily Grear married "L W B Leopold Zimmermann" in Kensington in 1865. Any idea what L W B stands for ? ... he was probably in England teaching German.
I have found Leopold and family (less wife) listed in Emily's step father's will dated 1901...
Leopold, his children Leopold, Bertha, Rosa and a grandchild named Johannes Niebuhr. living in  Arnstadt Thuringen Germany.

Any help will be appreciated. George Baynes

Hi George,

in Germany  everybody is obliged to register at the townhall . The last name is Bertha and they all live at Nr. 537. As there are no street names given I assume its a small place. Leopold is a Realschullehrer, High-school teacher.  L W B are most probably Christian names - perhaps Ludwig Wilhelm B?

Hope this helps, regards Peonie

added: not quite so small, there were 12 818 inhabitants in 1890

Thankyou both very much. Better service than Macdonalds.
