Stuck again...John Hoy of Colne Engaine appears in census records 1841-1901 inc. I wonder if anybody can confirm his wife's maiden name, please? Some folk suggest Stock & others Wilkinson. There appear to be 3 children: George c.1843, Ellen c.1852 & James c.1857 all born Colne Engaine as are their parents according to census returns. I can find a marriage record for Hoy/Wilkinson, q4 1839 Halstead but not a single suitable/fitting birth record for any of those children. Ellen appears to be the 2nd wife of Edward Hardy, Miller, of Toppesfield and appears to be childless by him. George may have married an Emma Hayward and James, well I'm still looking for him beyond 1871. I'd appreciate any info but it's a bit of a distant branch arrived at through William Hardy of Toppesfield...4 wives and no apparent children...yet another story!
