I need some help/advice on tracking down my relative Jenny Burton HAYNES, Born 1873. She was 1 of 14 children born to Thomas Haynes (1841-1912) and Mary Jane Slocombe (1839-1913) of Wolborough, Newton Abbott.
I have tracked the family through the census returns and her name disappears between the 1881 and 1891 returns, when she would have been between 8 and 18 years old. I have been unable to find any marriage or death record using the usual free online resources.
Can anyone help or advise?

The 1911 census gives number of children born and number of children still alive so that might indicate if she had died prior or was still alive at that point.
Did the family stay in the Devon area?

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, the parents stayed in the Newton Abbott area.
Her older sister Florence married in 1892 and her and her husband, William Penberthy moved to Swindon some time prior to the 1901 census. Although she has a younger sibling staying with her on that occasion and in the 1911 Census neither one is Jenny.
I searched FreeBMD again this morning and it turned up the Death registration of a Jennie Haynes in Mar Quarter 1945 age 72 in Birmingham. Her stated age would confirm an 1873 birth but I am not convinced it's the Jennie I'm looking for.
I have tried searching under "Jane Haynes"; "Jane B"; "Jennie Burton"; "Jane Burton"; with the surname variants and All Counties boxes ticked but can not identify and potential candidates.
So I might just have to leave her on the back burner if this enquiry proves fruitless.
Any info or ideas will be gratefully received.
Thanks in advance.

If you are very lucky she might turn up as a witness for a sibling's marriage.... or with a relative on any census.
Until she was married she might have been shared amongst the family helping out with infinite numbers of babies and children.....

I live nearby if you would like any photos....

Only 1 child out of 15 has died before 1911 - do you know who that was or does it have to be Jenny?
Process of elimination - if it wasn't one of the others then it has to be her.

The 1945 death in Birmingham is probably the wife of Cecil Owen HAYNES.

Apologies for delay in responding - unfortunately work got in the way of my research!
I think you are right as I have traced marriages for all her brothers and sisters although I still have to finalize final confirmation on 2-3 of her later siblings.
What puzzles me is if she did pass away during that period why is there no death registration?
Thanks for your help.

Had another look and nothing :(
Can only think she is under another first name but Jenny Burton is what she was registered as so ???

Where did the "Burton" part come from?
In case it may be relevant . . . . .
there is a Harold Burton Haynes 22/Jul/1908-QJun1974(Torbay)
but is he Harold William QSep1908 NewtonAbbot? (mmn Winser)

Determined not to give up on her!
Having a look in 1891 and, wrong name I know, but there is a Bertha Haymes corrected to Haynes
age 18 servant born Newton Abbott with the Crether family.
Plus it's in Wolborough
Now I can't see a birth for a Bertha Haymes or Haynes so one to check out just in case :)

I can find 14 Haynes/Slocombe births in Newton Abbot so we know who the players are
Florence 1866
Mary Ella 1868
Jenny Burton 1873
Polly 1875
Eva Sabrina 1884
Rosaline 1885
Daisy May 1890
Frank 1881
Harry 1879
James Clement 1882
Bill 1878
Tom 1876
Fred 1870
Thomas Albert 1867
So still missing one. There's a Lucy 17 in 1881 and 7 in 1871. Maybe Lucy Jane Slocombe 1864 no mothers name so born before the marriage. So that's all 15 if she was included.
