Looking for Martha Rowe b. 1820 St Tudy daughter of Richard Rowe and Elizabeth Hocking?variants have looked papers past,cornish on line parish clerks for possible marriages, free bdm, a brick wall. Her brother John went to Canada and Thomas to Nz. I think that she may have married so that is what the hold up is. I found a Martha Rowe 1841 census egoshayle bodmin aged 21 with Richard HAWKEN which could be a variant of her mothers maiden name of Hocking ?Hawking etc.has anyone any suggestions thanks lnr

Which of the Martha Row/e marriages on freebmd did you follow up, and which did you eliminate?

Gro Index confirms Elizabeth as nee Hocking;
ROWE, ELIZABETH, Mothers mn HOCKING****
GRO Reference: 1838 D Quarter in PENZANCE UNION Volume 09 Page 211
I have checked every on-line resource for a Marriage for Martha (Father Richard) with no results.
In case you dont have Richards actual Burial;
11 May 1850, St Tudius, St Tudy, age 57 (birth c 1797)
I am a bit worried about a Tree which has Elizabeth/Richard marrying 9 July 1812 • St Giles in the Heath, Devon.
He would only be 15!

1851 census shows Elizabeth Rowe aged 12 as born Saint Tudy. If her birth was registered, it would have been at Bodmin not Penzance. Several Rowe + Hocking marriages in the Penzance registration area to account for an Elizabeth in 1839.
Possible marriage 13 Mar 1819 in Plymouth of Richard Rowe & Elizabeth Symons
Marriages that can be eliminated for Martha
march qtr 1844 registered Truro - that Martha was a widow when she married William Collins
sep qtr 1844 reg Stratton - that Martha was a widow when she married Joseph Budd
dec qtr 1856 reg at Plymouth - that Martha's father was called John

ok, think this may be Elizabeth's birth reg
Elizabeth Row march qtr 1839 Bodmin vol 9 pg 43 mother's maiden name Hocken

after the 1851 census at Ecolshayle I cant find that Martha Rowe that may have been her as that Richard Hawken died 1861 and cant find his wife Mary in the 1861 census to see if a Martha Rowe is still with that family. Marthas mother Elizabeth died 7 dec 1855 st tudy aged 66? widow of Richard Rowe butcher. 1851 she was 59. If she really was 66 makes her birth around 1789. Richard may have been born earlier than 1795 as well.I am slowly working through the marriages for martha by the spouses and the census after the marriage dates if this helps thanks lnr
