I've hit a brick wall with my G G Grandfather William Templeton b c 1828, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. He married Elizabeth Clark, 28 September 1849. However there are far too many William Templeton's born in Ayrshire around that time and I can't be sure who his parents were. Could be a John Templeton/ Janet Lermont but that's just a guess. Can anyone help [lease?

Have you found him on 1841 census? What information was on the marriage records, and his death records?

Elizabeth Templeton age 40 born Ireland

I have one child born to John Templeton and Janet Lermont in my tree.
Although daughter Margaret( b 1826) was born in Kilmaurs, Ayrshire she married, lived and died in Paisley, Renfrewshire.
Her death cert confirms her parentage.
Meanwhile, Margaret's own grand daughter married a man who's mother was also a Templeton from Kilmaurs.
His mother was called Helen Templeton ( bc 1831 Kilmaurs) and as she fits the profiling, I had originally assumed that she too was also the daughter of John and Janet.
However, her death states that Helen was the daughter of John Templeton and Elizabeth Armour. ?

Yes guys. This is my William Templeton. He moved to Yorkshire from Glasgow. I also have an 1841 Census but can't be sure this is the right William.
Address Kilmaurs East Side
Surname First name(s) Sex Age Occupation Where Born
TEMPLETON John M 38 Hand Loom Weaver Ayrshire
TEMPLETON Janet F 42 Ayrshire
TEMPLETON Elisabeth F 17 Ayrshire
TEMPLETON Margaret F 15 Ayrshire
TEMPLETON William M 12 Ayrshire
TEMPLETON Helen F 10 Ayrshire
TEMPLETON James M 7 Ayrshire
TEMPLETON John M 5 Ayrshire
TEMPLETON Andrew M 5m Ayrshire
The age looks OK but there are many other William's born around 1828. I have a DOB of 29 June 1828 but again, not sure if this is for the right William.
Appreciate your feedback.

Possibly John Templeton and Sarah Allison. Familysearch have a birth of a son Robert to this couple in 1829 in Kilmarnock. This birth would match the Robert shown with them in 1841.

What is the name of his Father on the marriage records?

Could be a possible going by the name of the first daughter for William and Elizabeth

He married in 1849 ( before statutory registration) so chances are marriage entry will not contain this information and as he appears to have died in England that is a dead end as well.

The family you found Isobel are in the 1851 census at 18,Eglinton Street Glasgow and 1861 at 46 Eglinton Street Glasgow ...A tree on Anc......has the birth for a William Templeton 3/11/1824 parents John Templeton and Sarah Allison ..Death certificates in England don't have the same information as the Scottish ones so makes it even harder ....Just a pity none of the children had middle names ???
