Title: Frederick (joseph) Rogers
Post by: sarah on Monday 06 November 17 16:03 GMT (UK)
I am posting this message of behalf of a new user Roystonrogers

In 1872 the above named person appeared in Liverpool and was the father of a son called Frederick Arthur he set up 2 tailors shops in Liverpool changing to better shops later. He then dies on the 15th October 1886 of pneumonia and was buried on the 20th of October
West Derby Cemetery CofE Entry 1449 Single section 8 Grave 1404 Public grave. I am going to contact the Council to see if there is a head stone and any other detail they know and is it still there.
Other than the census entry of 1881 I really don't know much that I can prove.

The census said he was 54 yet he must have been 61 which made him 25 years older than his wife who was I think born 1845 and he was born 1819-20
His wife was called Sarah Ann nee Sharp she too was a tailoress and if I have her tree right I can go back to 1780.
She said in that census to be born Stock cross Berkshire and he said Newbury Berkshire.

I have death certificate for him which confirms the above.

Now here is the strange bit I have a birth of a Joseph Rogers Born to William and Ann at All Saints East Lockinge Berkshire on the 25/10/1819 Is that him most of his life it shows as Frederick yet my G Father Marriage Certificate says Joseph deceased ?
I can't find a Marriage or a Will in 1886 but am still to check 1887

Could I ask for advise please.
I have Visited Reading Records office and Tried to look for him being born in 1827 and 1819-20 but nothing for Frederick it was only later I looked for George and Joseph as these are popular names in our Family.
As Sarah Ann and Helen are for the Girls.
Please Please help as I have heard you have helped others.

I don't see a marriage for Sarah Ann Sharp to Rogers so maybe he had already been married if he was much older than her?

Baptism for Frederick Arthur gives mother Mary Ellen if I have the right one - Liverpool 25 Dec 1872 father Frederick a tailor.

I have seen this which is a puzzle as there was a Mary Ellen Burton was on the same page as a Rogers but the GRO say its wrong she never married Rogers a Tailor !!!

That was the only BaptismI could find but I have his Birth Death and Census for him.

The mothers maiden name for the birth is Sharp which ties in with Sarah Ann.

If you have the birth certificate who does it say his mother was - Sarah Ann or Mary Ellen?

Might be a different Frederick Arthur on the baptism - do the dates/places tally?

Bit of a mystery isn't he Frederick Joseph.

There are family trees with his marriage to Sarah Ann either in 1864 or 1869 but I don't see evidence of this.

I do suspect he was married previous as he was an older gentleman by the time he and Sarah had children.  If they didn't marry it could indicate he still had a wife.

Can't explain where the Mary Ellen comes from at all and there aren't many options for Rogers born Newbury on earlier census that could be him.

Which parish registers you have checked for a baptism for Frederick/Joseph/George Rogers?

Kind Regards

I forgot to mention He ran away with his wife's Neice and never Married herwithin 12 months they had started a family !!!
The Family member I am in touch with I am giving them the News.
Both the Robeson's and the Rogers have broken down the brick wall.

It would make a great Book.
Glad I have the time and anyone who helps are great as I try to help if I can.
I hope this help you to "CARRY ON" and that was a Peter Rogers who was involved with them !!!
Thank you all.
If you can find anything on Robeson of Newbury His Father William paid off the debt and became Grand Master of the Jack of Newbury Oddfellows Lodge.
There are some good ones as well.
We can't judge them all be his standards.
I am now part of a new family but still part of the Sharp family.
I have written to Sonning Church but still not received an answer as I believe some of the Sharps have been Buried there and could still live there.
Can anyone help please.
The Robeson's seem to be buried Newtown Road Cemetry and went to church at St Nicholas Church Bartholomew St Newbury.
Are they still there as I would like to visit them and the Jack of Newbury in the Summer.

What do you already know/have about the Robesons?

Someone has this tree on Familysearch

As you probably know William Robeson c1797 and his wife Elizabeth are buried at Newtown Cemetery. I don't know if you have seen this website but if not it might be worth a look.

http://www.fnrcnewbury.org.uk/burials.asp

Also there is a journal with newtown cemetery monumental inscriptions held at Newbury library which has the following:

IARO/ Elizabeth ROBESON/ wife of William ROBESON/ who died Dec 18th 1874 aged 80 years/ "In life-------/? Also of William Henry ROBESON, husband of the above, who died Marth 16th 1879 aged 81 years.
