Hello--
Does anyone have access to Pontyberem Directories of 1920s through early 1930s.
Looking for David S. Davies (b. 1869). He was a baker in the 1911 Census at "Glasfry (?) House"
at Pontyberem. He was a coal mine worker earlier. Thanks.
Regards, Stephen E. Simon, CT, USA.

Hi
Can't remember where I got it from, but I have a death date for him of 18 Sep 1930. Which would correspond to this entry in the registers: Davies David S (age 61) Llanelly 11a 888. His death certificate should give his abode in 1930, plus the name of the informant, who may be related.
Regards

There is also a probate showing him still at Glasfryn with his wife Anne, inheriting

Can't obviously find his marriage to wife Anne. Some have said she is Anne Walters and there is a marrige of David Stephen Davies to possibly Anne Walters in 1885, but this is to early
Bowen Sarah Jane Llanelly 11a 1039
Davies David Stephen Llanelly 11a 1039
Rees John Llanelly 11a 1039
Walters Ann Llanelly 11a 1039
as in 1891 he is shown as S although M has been crossed out, Presumably, based on their children it would have been early 1890s but can't find a David S or David Stephen marriage then in Carmarthenshire
Do others have any suggestions?

Hello--
Wow!! Thank you again. Did the probate give his date. I do not have Ancestry
at this time--renewing soon. I will order the death. Did you find Evan Joshua Davies'
death too?? David's younger brother. Thanks.
Regards, Stephen

Probate confirms death date. Evan died Dec 4 1949, again there is probate. I have Evan married twice first to Mary Ann Thomas and then to Margaret (Maggie) Thomas, who inherits his "estate". I also have that Evan was known as Ianto. I think all this info originally came from other member trees on Ancestry. I'll PM you later today or tomorrow

Hi--
Thank you. I did not have that. Yes, --GRO index shows 1949--death of Evan Joshua Davies in 1949.
Thank you again.

Using the GRO to look at the births of David and Ann's children her surname looks to be Hughes, with births I have looked registered in Llanelly, except for Rosanna whose birth is registered in Carmarthen.
Example registration
DAVIES, ANNIE MARY (HUGHES)
GRO Reference: 1908 D Quarter in LLANELLY Volume 11A Page 1245
I have looked for the marriage of David Davies and Ann Hughes in Carmarthenshire 1901-1904 but can't find one. The nearest I can find is potentially a Mary Ann in 1898 but that's too early
Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
Marriages Dec 1898 (>99%)
DAVIES David Carmarthen 11a 1710
Hughes Mary Ann Carmarthen 11a 1710
Jones Elizabeth Carmarthen 11a 1710
Lewis Thomas Henry Carmarthen

This one would fit with being married 18 yrs in 1911 also with first child born
Marriages Mar Q 1893
Davies David Carmarthen 11a 1155
Hughes Anne Carmarthen 11a 1155
DAVIES, ROSANNA mmn HUGHES
GRO Reference: 1894 M Quarter in CARMARTHEN Volume 11A Page 1085

That would be a perfect fit, don't know why I didn't spot in my search, a fresh pair of eyes always help with ancestry research!

For those following this thread.
I have been very fortunate to be in contact with the son of a lady (100 years and with an amazing memory) that knew Mary Ann Davies in the 1920s. She actually married a William Bevan (born 1875 Llangyfelach, Glamorgan) in 1897 in Llanelly. In 1901 they lived in Lanwonno, Glamorgan (William entered incorrectly as Wm Berman). They had one daughter Rosalie born Penrhiwceiber, Llanwonno in 1900. In 1911 they were back in Pontyberem, living at the Boat House (Mary Ann's father and siblings lived at the Boat Shop in 1881, probably the same place). In the 1920s they were living at Railway Terrace, Pontyberem. The lady remembers Mary Ann as being very deaf and having a large ear trumpet, which is confirmed by the 1911 census which states Mary Ann had already been deaf for 5 years.
