Title: Crowley/O'Callagh
Post by: terryt on Friday 10 November 17 02:01 GMT (UK)
I am looking for any more information on my gg Grandparents, Jeremiah Callaghan/O'Callaghan and Julia Crowley.  I think Jeremiah was born about 1835/36 parents could have been James Callaghan/Mary Ahern. Jeremiah and Julia were married on the 9th March 1862, Parish/Church/Congreation Ballinhassig, Oven & Aglis. Children from the marriage were Mary, John, Jeremiah, Julia, James, Jeremiah, Honoria, Ellen and Catherine (Kate).  John, Julia, Honoria and Catherine immigrated to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. I know that the family lived in Aglish and Cronody. On the 1901 Irish census Julia aged 60 and is a widow living with her son James and daughter Honoria.

Are you sure this is your Julia? Julia O'Callaghan in 1901-

Looks like this Julia (died 1902) was the widow of Patrick Callaghan-

Thank you aghadowey for all that but unfortunately I don't think this is my family as the ages of the children do not match the dates that I have for them. I was not sure that the family that I had in the 1901 census was the right one but the age of the 2 adult children fitted the time frame even though it was slightly out with Hanoria. Having done other research I found that the girls put back their ages when they immigrated.
Many thanks.

What family isn't yours? I posted detail of two  :-\
Perhaps if you posted the names and birthdates and information that you know are the correct ones we might be able to help.

Here are the births for the children:- Mary 1863, John 1864, Jeremiah 1866 - 1871, Julia 1868, James 1870, Jeremiah 1871, Ellen 1874, Catherine (Kate) 1875, Hanora 1878 and Margaret 1880. I don't think the 2 details that you posted are a match.

Hello Carol,

The family that aghadowey posted looks very likely.
When did the siblings emigrate? Was that before 1901?

I can’t see Hanoria’s birth in 1878 as you have but here is Hannah b 1883

This would fit with 1901 as aghadowey posted.

I have got Hanora's birth for 1878 on the Family Search.org

I have got Hanora's birth for 1878 on the Family Search.org

Does that Hanorah have the right parents?
If so, perhaps that child died or they had another child name Hannah.
Have you verified the births in the civil records?

If that family is yours, there is a discrepancy also for Hanoria between the two censuses but the first one fits.

I can't see a birth on Family Search that fits. Could you please post the link so that we can also see the record.

Here's the actual birth registration- looks like the birthplace is Cronody rather than the transcribed Crowdy-

The family therefore had Hanora in 1878 and Hannah in 1883.

Carol,
Do you still think that aghadowey’s find is not your family?

Thanks for that aghadowey. I suppose it is correct the girl's ages don't tally as they are out by a good bit. Heywood I don't have a record for Hannah.

It is difficult for you as the ages are very different. I notice also that both censuses shows Hanna/h rather than Hanoria.

Hanora emigrated in 1898.

Hanora emigrated in 1898.

In that case you have possibly found another child  :)

Here is Margaret - birth 1880 which ties in with 1901
