Hi Sandra , thank you , that is great .There seems to be so many conflicting dates of birth on this relative of mine , I have his birth cert saying 1862 , but on his American Naturalization paper it gives 1871 and now this death cert says 1865 ! I find it strange also that he is in the Canadian Vets part of the cemetery saying he served with the 1st Devonshire Regiment B.E .F . , He would have been in Canada then and in his mid fifties ! more research needed .
Thank you once again

Thanks Sandra , his military date of birth ties up nicely with his birth cert . I just tried printing off from the pages but does not come out too clear . It is the right man though .

That's great. Dates of birth, immigration dates etc don't always tally - some people make them selves older or younger and it does depend on who gives the information.

Hello Sandra , I notice that young Ivy aged 7 went out to Canada with her dad William Henry Prout in March 1911 but his wife and two other children went out in June 1911 . Do you think that " Bonus Allowed " might have something to do with it ?
Regards
Alan
-
Hi Alan,
It was fairly typical that when families crossed the pond, 1 or 2 would arrive to settle themselves,
and the rest of the family would follow. I don't think the British Bonus had any bearing on their
split sailings.
With Ivy, a domestic, aged 15, not 7, she had a job to come to. Beside her name on that 1911 manifest is "CGEA" which is Canadian Government Employment Agent. These agents received a commission from the government for placing domestics/labourers with employers.

Ah , thank you , I wondered what that abbreviation stood for and makes sense , I should have known she was 15 , not sure where the 7 came from .If she was 7 I imagined William not being able to work .

Alan
