Can anyone identify the regiment of this Scottish soldier and possible date? Am I correct in thinking he is a Corporal? Many thanks.

Black Watch.
The "stripes" which are called chevrons are for good conduct. First one after 2 years & then one for every 6 years if memory serves. So at least 6 years service at this time.
All I can tell you with regard to a date is that he's wearing the pre 1908 uniform.
It could be 1880's up to early Edwardian from the style of the photo. The quality isn't great so I doubt it's as late as Edwardian but it appears to be an enlargement as there's some outline sketching to it.
I can also tell you this picture is in reverse. It may have happened at the copying stage or has been reversed by accident digitally.
This is what he should look like.

He is NOT Black Watch. Trews have stripes BW wore "Government" tartan - all dark. He could be Royal Scots but cannot see collar badges clearly

Good evening,
I would say Royal Scots but could also possibly be Highland Light Infantry. Both cap badges are the same shape but we can't see the centre detail.
