Hi all,
I am deep into my maternal family tree but am struggling to break past 1 generation of my paternal Foy line.
The only information I hold is that of my Grandfather; R J Foy (1930's~) who married Catherine and had several children.
Any assistance would be much appreciated. :)

Hi,
The Mothers names is also Foy.

Hi,
Welcome to RootsChat :)
Birth record -
R J Foy
Mother's Maiden Surname - Foy
1930's, West Derby
Vol 8b Page 639
You could purchase the birth cert to find who his parents were, however as the surname of the mother and child are the same then this would imply an illegitimate birth.
Has your Grandfather passed away? If not then his name should be deleted from the post as RootsChat has a living persons policy.

Try looking for him on the 1939 register on FindMyPast.

Does this look like your R ???UK Incoming Passenger List - R Foy born 1930's - aged 17 years - travelling New York to Southampton on the Queen Elizabeth - arriving 28 Nov 1950 - 4 Louise Place Liverpool - seaman.

The freebie on the 1939 register has him living with a Mabel Cartwright + 2 others.
There's a 1928 marriage between a Mabel Foy & William Cartwright.
There's also a birth for a Mabel Edith Foy in 1906,
both of these registered in the W.Derby district.
As he was born 1933 probably not him thinking about it.
It's not him.

I am deep into my maternal family tree but am struggling to break past 1 generation of my paternal Foy line.
The only information I hold is that of my Grandfather; Richard James Foy (1933~) who married Catherine Brown and had several children.
Any assistance would be much appreciated. :)
If this is the right birth index mentioned in this thread then you might be able to find out the father's name from the Liverpool archives at the Liverpool Record Office. There is a collection called "Liverpool Affiliation Registers, 1924-1964 [347 MAG 3]" you can make an appointment to view particular years within the years 1924-1964 each entry includes the name of the putative father in cases where the mother pursued maintenance payments. There is a man of his name (and second initial) showing on the ER's in Liverpool in 2016-2017.

Welcome to rootschat,
I think this could be your man.

It is probable that he has other merchant navy records detailing the ships he sailed on with dates and places of engagement and discharge.

You would be best served by a visit to Kew.

Hi Sarah,
I cannot confirm if the person has passed away. Hopefully the original poster (Foy1989) will reply to my post (#2) asking if the person is no longer with us.

Was just about to ask Foy1989 the same question as above but they have now gone off line
These records may relate to the same person as mentioned by seaweed and Sandra

I'm also thinking that this is a living person. Such a shame for the poster to log in and not reply :-\

Hi all,
Thanks for the replies.
I too am unable to confirm whether my relative is yet of this world. Sorry for my inabiliry to reply ~ my wifi is not the best of quality out of home.
I certainly would like to think he is a living person. In the meantime, please remove the name or navigate me to a section where I can either edit or remove a post.
Warm Regards
