I know this is a long shot , and I will probably never know but as they say two eyes can be better than one.
In 1865 in wolstanton my 2x grandfather Thomas Woodcock married a Hannah Trickett.
They went on to live in onnerely near madeley.
They had a child John in 1866 , then another my g grandfather Thomas in 1879.
What is frustrating me is in 1911 they say 3 children born and 3 children living.
Going through the census they only ever had the two children with them.
if they had lost one , don't think they would have said living.
Hannah my gf grandmother was deaf from the age off 12.
Did she have a child before marriage ?
If so we're is it ?
Her parents were Thomas Trickett and Martha also in madeley.
Would she acknowledged the child in the census all them years later ?
I know it's a long shot but does a child stick out to anyone, with other members off the family ?
Thanks
Sue

That's a big gap between children (1866 to 1879). Have you looked on the GRO website for Woodcock births with mother's maiden name Trickett in between?
-
There are a few but no mother's maiden name >:(
-
I can only find christenings for John/Thomas.
-
Might have found something
baptism 4.10.1863 Madley Eliza illegitimate daughter of Hannah Trickett
On the 1871 & 1881 there is listed and Eliza Trickett in Tunstall listed as the granddaughter of a Peter Price

Oh how have I missed that ??? Can't believe you found her , who the heck is Peter price ?
Sue
-
No idea but I have just looked at the original baptism record and it gives Hannahs place of residence as Owneley which is where the family were living at one point but Hannah isn't with the family on the 1861 census
I will keep looking

Ha!
Peter Price was married to a Sarah Trickett 15.3.1857 Wolstanton
Willow x
-
There is a marriage of an Eliza Trickett to a John McClean 18.10.1885 at Etruria where the fathers name is given as James Trickett - could this be James Price?
Willow x
-
Hannah is in the 1861 as a servant. But written as Hannah trukit,
-
Excellent work Willow.
Looks to me that Sarah Price, formerly Trickett, maiden name Brook, is Hannah Tricketts Mother.
-
No the baptism of Hannah 7.11.1841 at All Saints Madeley says Thomas and Martha it says Thomas on the marriage entry as well but Sarah must be related to them somehow
Willow x
ps well spotted Suee

Excellent work is not the word willow, need to get my head around the last one about Sarah price ?
-
I am wrong but there must be some Family connection ::)
-
I agree Sarah has to be a family member, loosing it now how old would Sarah be ?
-
Sarah Trickett must have been a a Widow when she married Peter Price 1857, there is no image in Anc but entry has her Father as James Brook (s)
I see Hannahs Baptism has her Parents as THOMAS/MARTHA
(F/S.Org)
1871 Census Sarah Price is born c 1799 Nantwich, Cheshire
May be clutching at straws but a Sarah BROOKS married Joseph TRICKETT 18 Dec 1817 Wybunbury, Cheshire.
(F/S.Org)
-
Sarah was a widow when she married Peter Price (as was he)
age given as 72 in 1871 but she was born in Audlem Cheshire as was Martha
Willow x
-
Martha's maiden name was Smith
Thomas Trickett married Martha Smith 21.4.1834 Audlem

I am still with you just trying to catch up :-*

Let me see if I have this right
My great grandmother had a illegitimate child 1863 Eliza trickett.
Eliza lived in 1871\1881 with a Peter price in tunstall.
Peter price was married to a Sarah trickett born 1799 in audlem
My g grand mum Martha born 1815 was also born in audlem her maiden name was Smith.
Do we know Sarah trickett maiden name ?
-
Yes
15 2.1857 St Margarets Wolstanton Peter Price widower father William to Sarah Trickett widow father James Brook
I cant find Hannah on the 1861 who was she servant too?

Willow can't tell you how grateful I am for your help, never thought I would find the child :D
The only thing that confusing me is , saying Sarah trickett widow father name brook.
So is that saying she was a brook, and first husband was a trickett ?
Trying all ways to make a connection between Sarah and Martha
Thanks sue

Trish found that one I don't know how Joseph fits in with the family but I'm sure there is a connection

I have been looking at Joseph and Sarah in the 41\51 census, Sara certainly liked looking after children 😁
I am wondering if Joseph and Thomas were maybe brothers ?
And Martha and Sarah both being from audlem were friends and married the brothers or cousin s.
So we're perhaps sister-in-law laws ?
Obviously trusted her enough to take on her daughter's illegitimate child.

Right I will keep posting bits as I find them
16.12.1817 Wybunbury Joseph Trickett was 23 when he married Sarah Brooks she was 21 (bit of a porky there she was probably only 18 if later census are correct) no fathers listed as its too early in the records but the witnesses were a John and Martha Evans
Joseph and Sarah in Wybunbury in 1841 with 11 kids all listed as born in county looks like Joseph died 1848
On the 1851 they are still living in Cheshire but the one son Joseph has married to an Elizabeth who is probably a widow born Betley who is twice his age and has a daughter Sarah Thorpe born Madeley so there is quite a connection between the Trickett families and Cheshire and Madeley
Willow x
-
Joseph was baptised 15.6.1794 Wybunbury father Samuel no mother given
he died 10.11.1848 buried 15.11.1848 Wybunbury (buried north of Humphrey Hales gravestone if you want to find him)

I know its always hard going with the surname Smith but looking at Martha she says shes born Audlem but the only baptism I can find there is 1.11.1818 parents James and Martha
There is a baptism 13.8.1815 at Wybunbury parents Thomas and Elizabeth which would fit her age better - maybe that's where the Wybunbury connection comes from between Sarah and Martha
There again it could be that the baptism hasn't been transcribed yet ;D

That looks like a day out with a packed lunch to me 😀
I really am greatful for your help , never thought I would trace a illegitimate child, what would we do without computers.
I was hoping I would find her though she maybe within the family somewhere, well hoping anyway.
I was going along the lines of maybe her younger sister was her child as you do.
As I said before Hannah was deaf from the ,age of 12 then to have had a child before marriage must have been hard.
Just been looking at Eliza her child out of wedlock, if the marriage to John McClean is correct, looks like they went on to have ,3 children.
John Alexander 1887
Donald hector 1901
Ethel may. 1905
If this is the correct one
Wonder if Eliza ever had any contact with her real mum Hannah Trickett \ woodcock my gf grandmother.
Was very surprised when she said she had 3 children not two, surposed I will never know
Sue
-
Right see if this makes sense
Looking at the ages of Thomas and Joseph I suspect that they were cousins which would make the father of Joseph - Samuel the brother of Thomas's mother Elizabeth
Proving it is the fun bit ;D
As you say why suddenly mention 50 years later another daughter but there again that was the only census that allowed you to do that
Willow x
-
Mind you in some ways it makes sense because Hannah is widowed she is filling in her details and she does have 3 children
Willow x
-
If you search under Wybunbury baptisms there are loads of Tricketts I think this might be where the family originated from
You might have to start a big tree and see where they all link in to get them sorted
Willow x
-
Yes you are correct Hannah was widowed in 1911 , so it was Hannah filling it in.
Now there is a challenge sorting the trickett s out , my winter challenge.

Good luck!
There is a Samuel baptised 1769 father Samuel (probably the one buried 1815 born 1725) and an Elizabeth baptised 1766 father Samuel if this is the right Elizabeth she would be 44 when John was born - too old?
