Hi All,
Can anyone tell me what this parish is in Cumberland? It is from a will dated 1684.
To me it looks like:
Abbelandercost!
Thanks in advance

Yes - Lanercost Abbey, now known as Lanercost Priory.
-
Thanks very much to you both!

Try Newton Arlosh. It would be better if you showed more of the document so that the formation of letters can be cross referenced
-
The original reads Abbelandercost, which must be Lanercost Abbey :)
-
Heard of the Lannercost Chronicle, so that's where it is!
Skoosh.

Absolutely 100 percent Abbelandercost which is the ancient name for Lanercost parish. Every letter is there exactly as spelt out. This form of the parish name continued in legal documents as Abbeylanercost into the 20th century.

Dear All,
Yes I have found more records for Abbeylanercost/Lanercost.
Thanks again
Gillian

Works for me OK," Lannercost Priory" not easy in Chinese! ;D
Skoosh,

Still the Chinese page on my computer.
The Lanercost page on my iPad.
However, the answer to your question is still yes, it’s Lanercost (as Mike said in reply#2 on 15th November) :D

You should know - your lot sacked it at least four times in its history! Henry VIII was the last one to do so, though, and he made a more thorough job of it.

Ye ken it was tit for tat Mike so no hard feelings! ;D Hope you weren't passed by on the Honours this year?
