Title: NLi Parish Registers
Post by: S.O.B on Wednesday 15 November 17 19:11 GMT (UK)
Wonder if anyone might advise.....

I think I may have found the marriage of my ggggrandfather (James BRYAN - Anne TRACY 20/2/1832) in the NLI Register for the parish of AVOCA.

The same register also features baptism records of 4 possible offspring between 1833 - 1839 (Mary, William, Jane & Peter)

Can anyone advise which churches were included in this parish register, or if there is any further line of investigation?

Regards

Steve O'Brien

If you click on

You may be able to find more information on registers for this parish at:

    Irish Ancestors

you will get more information

If there are addresses on records you can find which Civil parish they were in.
Castlemacadam
Ennereilly
Redcross
or Kilbride (Arklow)

Then see what churches were in their civil Parish

Knowing what churches were in the parish probably won't add to the detail, unless you think they moved house. The registers go back into the 18th century.

This site is useful to look at churches in a particular area: http://www.swilson.info

Also rootsireland shows more potential children, though the names Anne and James and the surname Bryan (Brien/O'Brien, etc) is pretty common in that area.

Purpeller, many thanks for your input.  You've touched on the essence of my query; whether the church records might have included more detail than features in the parish register.
From local English RC records I know my 3ggf (Peter O'Brien) was born to James & Ann (in Wicklow).  And Peter's wife (Mary) to James Byrne & Ellen James.  I did find their marriage and the baptisms of some Byrne children (entirely consistent with the 1861 census) with some intriguing common names as witnesses and sponsors for both families.  I'm now trying to firm up my suspicions (but that is all they are!!)

Steve

The parish record is the church record. There wouldn't be a second copy or a different version of it.
