Hi, Once again I need some help. I have found a family link and wondered if anyone can put the family together. Have a Cartwright [Mary ELLEN] neice found with George b1850 and Kate Weaver & daughter Maud in Stoke census 1891. Am trying to connect Hannah Cartwright nee Weaver 1855 Ipstones with George but currently to no avail. Hannah quotes father as Joseph on her marriage cert. but they did not always tell the truth. Can you link Hannah and George and provide/confirm parents names. Many thanks Mel C

For anyone else who, like me, has had trouble locating the 1891 entry -
RG12/2170 folio 25 page 44 - 52 Havelock Street, Stoke on Trent - transcribed as Wewer!!
George Weaver - 41 - Carpenter
Kate - 42
Maud - 17
Ellen Cartwright - 15 plus 3 boarders
-
1881 Census - RG11/2722 folio 9, page 12 - 48 Clyde Street, Stoke on Trent
George Weaver - 31 - Railway Break Fitter
Kate - 32
Edward - 7 - adopted son
-
The only Cartwright/Weaver marriage showing on Staffordshire BMD 1854-1875 is of a William Cartwight to a Hannah Weaver at Stoke St Peter in 1875.
Regards
William Russell Jones.
-
1901 Census - RG13/2604 folio 21, page 34 - 30 Havelock Street, Stoke on Trent
George Weaver - 51 - Carpenter
Kate - 52
Maud - 27
-
Unlike the many other Cartwrights in the Stoke area, the 1881 Census shows William to have been born in Manchester in c 1848.Other children showing are William born c 1878 and Emily born c 1880.They are living in Fenton.

William Russell Jones.

Just as a matter of interest, have you actually found a marriage between George Weaver and Kate ??
-
You have put:
'Hannah Cartwright nee Weaver 1855 Ipstones'
have you found her birth and then looked for possible marriage for her parents, and her in 1861 and 1871 censuses.
Hannah Weaver born 1855 Cheadle has mmn Lockett.
These 3 people show up on the same search:
Marriages December quarter 1844
Caroline Lockett Leek
George Lockett Leek
George Weaver Leek

Has anyone found Maud in 1881, or her birth?

New info regarding Lockett. Not sure how relevant yet.

Hi All,
All entries are true up to now.

So all the efforts were a waste because you already held them?
Please read the posting guidelines re providing already-known records.

How very strange - Banns were read, and a Licence obtained.

Connection?
George Weaver Sep 1851 Cheadle 17 45 mmn Lockitt
Hannah Weaver born 1855 Cheadle has mmn Lockett.
-
Hi all, Don't get upset as you have confirmed details already posted on the initial request.
I am really interested as to where 'chempat' found the info on mmn Lockett/Lockitt, and are there any more children and details of this 'marriage'.
Thanks again,
Mel C

So to sum up
George Weaver and Hannah Weaver both have mmn Lockett
George Weaver married Caroline Lockett in 1844 so presumably they are the parents of George and Hannah.
Hannah Weaver married William Cartwright in 1875 and had a daughter Mary Ellen who is to be found with Uncle George and Auntie Kate in the 1891 Census. George married Kate Llewellyn in 1871.
Therefore the link has been found between Hannah Cartwright nee Weaver and George Weaver which is what we were asked to do.
Emeltom
The GRO site will give the mmn for births. You will have to register to use it but it's free.

Hi Emeltom, summed up to a tee. Many thanks to all who replied, sorry to have upset some. Now to try and find who 'Joseph Weaver' father from marriage cert might be?
And now off to try and trace more details of 'George Weaver married Caroline Lockett in 1844'
Thanks again to you all - GREAT JOB!!!

Cheers Mel C

One of the birth certificates for names of parents.
-
Hi All, Many thanks for the info on https://www.gro.gov.uk excellent place to find mothers maiden name. Now can anyone find the marriage between Weaver & Lockett?? Please. Mel C
-
i'm sure that people would be happy to help once you have told us the full names to look for (from birth certificate(s) .
more than one person has already indicated that they cannot locate the marriage, so it may be a widow re-marrying or some other scenario.

I've just been looking at the list of Weaver children born Cheadle with mmn Lockett and after some rooting have found the following Census entries. Do the children and their birth years sound familiar?
1861 RG9/1951/F85/p9
Kingsley, Cheadle Staffordshire
Samuel Wheawall
Sarah Wheawall wife
Jane Weawall born 1850
George Wheawall born 1852
Hannah Wheawall born 1855
Anna E Wheaall born 1857
Sarah Wheawall born 1860
Thomas Wheawall born 1861
1871 RG10/2887/F87/p12
Kingsley, Cheadle
Samuel Wheawall
Sarah Wheawall
George Wheawall born 1850
Sarah Wheawall born 1860
Thomas Wheawall born 1861
Dorothy Wheawall born 1864 (reg as Wheawall mmn Lockett)
Mary A Wheawall born 1866
Emily J Wheawall born 1868
Ellen Wheawall born 1871
Marriage
Samuel Wheawall/Sarah Lockett mar 1848 Cheadle 17 65
If the surname is Wheawall why were the chidren registered as Weaver? I have looked on the GRO site and with the exception of Dorothy there are no children registered Wheawall with mmn Lockett and none with any other mmn which fit the children mentioned in the Censuses.
I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to explain this.

Further to my last post i have found baptisms in Kingsley for George, Hannah, Anne Eliza and Sarah, all under the name Wheawall, but more interestingly Mary A and Dorothy are entered in the register as Wheawall or Weaver.

Hi,
Would this be the marriage?
1848
WHEAWALL Samuel LOCKETT Sarah Kingsley, St Werburgh Newcastle-Under-Lyme
WHEAWALL Samuel Cheadle 17 65
This connects the names....but why change surname to Weaver?
Mel C

Hi,
Would this be the marriage?
1848
WHEAWALL Samuel LOCKETT Sarah Kingsley, St Werburgh Newcastle-Under-Lyme
That looks to be the one as suggested at reply #26
Only you can decide , given all the evidence presented if it is the "right" marriage.

Hi PaulineJ,
serves me right for not reading emeltom's post fully. Apologies...

Hello, A huge thanks to all who have read & replied to my post. Once again they have gone above and beyond to help someone, namely me, locate family ancestors. Through asking the question I have found another site to assist [www.gro.gov.uk], but more importantly information to help me move forward with family research. My Weaver, Wheawall, Weavell, Locket, Lockitt and Lockett ancestors can now be researched further and added to the family tree. Many thanks to one and all for your time and investigations, regards, Mel C
-
Samuel Wheawall/Sarah Lockett are in lots of trees on Ancestry, and possibly a new spelling/name - Whywall.
-
Hi All,
Finally found correct family in Caverswall, Staffs.
Joseph Wheawall m Ellen Carr 1843 Dilhorne.
Surname changed to Weaver [no idea why!!] around 1850's.
Thanks to All.
Cheers,
Mel C
