we recently got my grandads records from the RAF
i was hoping some one could help me with a few abbriviations i have most of them in the pack they sent with the records
Ive got an A as an abbrivation of somthing and a F other ones constist of HH which is Headquaters holding and a single H which is homeforce, also i dont know what is BSU and FDS and PHU, GP i presume is group and HQ and headquaters
also can any one tell me where renscome down is and rippenston and if any one now any thing about any of these places its much appriciated

PHU was Personnel Holding Unit
RAF Morecambe was the Midland Hotel Morecambe used as a RAF hospital in WW2
I found these on google and Wikipedia has a long list of WW2 RAF stations.

thanks guys thats really helpful. do i search the RAF station via google ?? or search ww2 raf stations on wikkipedia. can any one link me in too a list of abbriiations for ww2 RAF
He was at a perticular unit then he was moved and there is a reason but its a abbriviation i need to find this out too
