Title: Software for an Android Tablet
Post by: crwhitton on Thursday 23 November 17 13:41 GMT (UK)
Can anyone suggest software for my Android Tablet, so that I can use it "out in the field" esentially to collect information from records or informants.  All I need is the ability to make new files and add data to them. Ideally it would generate a GEDCOM file that I can extract when I get home and use on my PC.  I dont need to take my main files with me.

It can be quite basic as long as it has a person note feature.

'GedStar Pro" is free but it seems support is coming to an end!
http://gedstarpro.com

 Also  GEDexplorer.  http://www.sundin.nu/gedexplorer/

I haven't used either of them but check them out, they may be what you are looking for.

I use Gedstar Pro .  It works very well in the field. You upload a *.GED file to the tablet and it lets you display trees, details, photos  in the correct Family Tree context.  I've used it for several year, with no issues. But the tree data is "read only" - you cannot change it. I can only suggest that you make notes on the tablet with a Note app and then update your tree when back home.

I used "Family Bee" in the past - its not free but I always found it reliable (before I switched to Apple)
