Title: McGahan family
Post by: shirleymcgahan on Friday 24 November 17 22:27 GMT (UK)
New Zealand Immigration records state: Brother Thomas McGahan 21 years old and John McGahan 19 years old. Nationality stated as Omagh. Occupation stated as Labourer. The ship Rooparell arrived in Auckland 30 May 1874.  Did they leave family in Omagh or were they travelling through?

Do marriage/death certificates from N.Z. give additional details? names of parents. etc.?

Omagh is likely the area but they may have been from outside the town itself. Civil registration of births didn't start until 1864 but church register with their baptisms may be online. There were McGahans in Co. Tyrone in 1901 census, etc. but difficult to prove and family links without additional details.
